Job Title: Reading Teacher (Grades 6-8) Location: Cyrus Peirce Middle School Position Type: Full-Time Position Overview: Cyrus Peirce Middle School, part of the Nantucket Public Schools district, is seeking a dedicated and skilled Reading Teacher for grades 6-8. This position is ideal for a passionate educator with experience in literacy development and a commitment to nurturing a love of reading in middle school students. The Reading Teacher will work to enhance students' reading comprehension, vocabulary, critical thinking, and literacy skills, contributing to their overall academic success and fostering lifelong learning habits. Key Responsibilities: Plan and implement engaging reading instruction aligned with district and state standards, focusing on reading comprehension, vocabulary, fluency, and analysis. Develop differentiated lesson plans that meet the varying needs and reading levels of students, using a range of instructional methods such as direct instruction, guided reading, and group activities. Regularly assess and monitor student progress using formative and summative assessments, adjusting instruction as needed to support all learners in achieving literacy goals. Provide targeted support and interventions for students needing additional assistance, including one-on-one or small-group instruction as appropriate. Establish a positive and inclusive classroom environment that fosters active participation, respect, and a love for reading. Collaborate with colleagues, including English Language Arts teachers, reading specialists, and special education staff, to align reading goals and integrate best practices across the curriculum. Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding student progress, reading assignments, and ways to support literacy at home. Participate actively in school meetings, professional development, and other school-related events.
