The Director of Digital Content and Social Media will lead the vision, strategy, and execution of D.C. United's digital content and social media presence. This role will oversee content strategy, creative direction, social media management, and digital fan engagement to grow the club’s audience, deepen fan relationships, and drive measurable business results.
As a key leader in the Marketing & Communications team, this role will manage a team of content creators, social media specialists, and external partners to deliver high-quality, impactful content across multiple platforms.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategic Leadership:
- Develop and execute a forward-thinking digital content and social media strategy aligned with the club’s overall marketing and business objectives.
- Define and uphold the D.C. United brand voice and visual identity across all digital platforms.
- Align digital content and social strategy with ticket sales, sponsorships, fan engagement, and community initiatives.
- Stay ahead of industry trends, social platform updates, and emerging digital technologies to position D.C. United as an industry leader.
Content & Creative Oversight:
- Oversee the creation and distribution of engaging, platform-specific multimedia content across website, social media, email, and mobile app channels.
- Lead and inspire a team of content creators, social media managers, videographers, and freelancers to produce best-in-class storytelling.
- Partner with internal creative teams to ensure content aligns with visual and brand standards.
- Drive innovation in content formats, including video storytelling, behind-the-scenes access, player-focused narratives, and live matchday coverage.
Social Media Management:
- Set strategic direction for D.C. United's social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, X, TikTok, Apple TV, LinkedIn, YouTube).
- Oversee social media campaigns, activations, and day-to-day content publishing.
- Ensure real-time coverage for matches, events, and significant club moments with engaging, on-brand content.
- Cultivate meaningful connections with fans through social interactions, responding to inquiries, and monitoring community sentiment.
Team Leadership:
- Lead, mentor, and manage a team with social media manager, content creators, videographers and coordinators.
- Build a collaborative and creative team culture that encourages innovation and accountability.
- Manage team workflows, content calendars, and resource allocation to optimize efficiency and quality.
Analytics & Performance Optimization:
- Leverage data analytics tools to track performance across all platforms and campaigns.
- Provide actionable insights and strategic recommendations to enhance content reach, engagement, and ROI.
- Prepare performance reports for senior leadership, highlighting successes and areas for improvement.
Partnership & Revenue Integration:
- Collaborate with the Partnerships team to integrate sponsor deliverables into digital and social content.
- Ensure sponsored content meets brand standards, feels authentic, and delivers value to partners and fans.
- Identify opportunities for monetizing digital platforms and driving incremental revenue through content initiatives.

REQUIREMENTS:
- 5–7 years of experience in digital content strategy, social media management, or related fields, preferably in sports, media, or entertainment industries.
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Proven experience leading digital and social strategies for a brand with a strong following and engagement.
- Demonstrated success managing teams and fostering professional growth among team members.
- Proficiency with content management systems (e.g., WordPress), social media management tools (e.g., Sprout Social, Hootsuite), and analytics platforms (e.g., Google Analytics, native social media insights).
- Strong creative vision and understanding of storytelling across digital mediums.
- Exceptional communication, leadership, and collaboration skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as dictated by the soccer season.
COMPENSATION
- Based upon qualifications and experience with an anticipated range of $85,000 - $115,000 Annually

Salary : $85,000 - $115,000
