Job Summary: Provides installation and service on commercial garage doors and/or opening and closing mechanisms of automatic doors as well as installation and service of new or residential customers. Advanced skill set required.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Install all types and sizes of garage doors, utilizing ladders, genie lifts, scissor lifts as needed.
  • Ability to drive with a 20 ft. trailer attached.
  • Understanding garage door schematic diagrams to determine appropriate methods of installing or repairing automated door openers.
  • Inspect job sites, assessing headroom, side room or other conditions to determine appropriateness of door for a given location
  • Adjust all door types to open or close and make simple adjustments to electric openers.
  • Apply hardware to door sections, such as drilling holes to install locks.
  • Repair or replace worn or broken door parts, using hand tools.
  • Carry springs to tops of doors, using ladders or genie lift, attach springs to tracks to shaft.
  • Measure and wind a variety of spring sizes, utilizing proper size winding bar, left or right movement in an upward motion of arm.
  • Climb ladders ranging in height from 6 ft. to 30 ft., utilizing a safety belt.
  • Complete required paperwork, such as work orders, according to services performed or required.
  • Assemble and fasten tracks to structures or bucks, impact wrenches or welding equipment.
  • Fasten angle iron backhangers to ceilings and tracks, using fasteners or welding equipment.
  • Install door frame bucks, rails, steel rolling curtains, electroniceye mechanisms, or electric door openers and closers, using power tools, hand tools, and electronic test equipment.
  • Cut door stops or angle irons to fit openings.
  • Set doors into place or stack hardware sections into openings after rail or track installation.
  • Remove or disassemble defective automatic mechanical door closers, using hand tools.
  • Order replacement springs, sections, or slats.
  • Lubricate doors
  • Bore or cut holes in flooring as required for installation, using hand or power tools.
  • Collect payment upon job completion when required.

Essential Job Skills/Requirements:

  • Basic reading, writing and arithmetic skills required. This is normally acquired through a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must possess a valid state driver’s license or have the ability to obtain one prior to employment.
  • Must have ability to use technology based equipment and software, tablets, phones, etc.
  • General knowledge and understanding of basic electrical wiring, electrical testers etc.
  • Must have the ability to lift up to 80 pounds overhead.
  • Must be able to walk carrying a load.
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time.
  • Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time.
  • Must have hand dexterity and complete range of motion.
  • Must be able to perform physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping and handling of materials.
  • Must be able to handle heights up to 40 ft. in air, with use of scissor lift.
  • Must be able to analyze information and evaluate results to choose the best solution and solve problems. Know when to ask for help!
  • Must be able to work in a team environment.
  • Must be able to communicate with supervisors and peers, providing information by telephone, in written form and/or in person.
  • Must be able to deal with the public and possess good customer service skills.

Equipment/Tools:

  • Basic Tools are provided by the company, if broke, replaced at no cost. Lost tools will be charged back to the employee.
  • Cordless lease options available for drill, charger, 2 batteries.

Safety Compliance:

  • D&D policy is to have all employees work in an environment free from harm. All Employees are responsible to ensure each other’s SAFETY while on the job. You must report all safety issues or concerns to the safety manager.
  • All on the job injuries must be reported to Direct Manager/Supervisor or Safety Manager within 24 hours. Any medical attention for on the job injuries must be at a designated Occupational Health location. Information provided on employee work boards.
  • Accidents Information Kits must be completed and turned in within 24 hours to Safety Manager.
  • Basic understanding of PPE (Personal Protection Equipment), Safety Hat, Goggles, Hearing and Gloves and their use. Required to use while working. Failure to use PPE can result in fines and termination of employment.
  • Ability to pass Safety Training Compliance applicable to job duties o Lead Paint Certification
  • Forklift Certification oBackground Certification – required by builders
  • Defensive Driving Certification oFall Protection Safety Class
  • Basic understanding of OSHA Safety Training monthly training participation is required and provided on site at no cost to the employee.
  • Ability to read MSDS sheets, understand the hazards of materials used on the job.
  • Ladder usage proper ladder usage, height & weight thresholds and transportation of ladders.
