Job Description
The Safety Manager will ensure compliance with all relevant safety regulations, conduct regular safety training, and work to promote a culture of safety throughout the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain comprehensive safety programs tailored to the roofing industry, including hazard assessment, fall protection, equipment safety, and emergency response plans.
- Conduct safety orientation for new employees and subcontractors, ensuring they are well-informed about safety policies, procedures, and best practices.
- Coordinate regular safety training sessions for all employees to keep them up to date on safety protocols.
- Organize and lead monthly safety meetings to discuss safety concerns, share incident reports, and reinforce safety awareness among the team.
- Provide guidance on safety improvements and preventive measures.
- Conduct regular job site inspections to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations. Collaborate with supervisors and workers to address safety issues promptly.
- Lead investigations into workplace incidents and accidents, compiling detailed reports and recommending corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
- Ensure timely reporting of accidents to relevant authorities, if required.
- Stay up to date with local, state, and federal safety regulations related to the roofing industry.
- Ensure the company’s compliance with all safety-related laws and regulations.
- Oversee the selection, distribution, and proper use of safety equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Monitor equipment maintenance and replacement as needed.
- Foster a culture of safety by promoting open communication and encouraging employees to report safety concerns without fear of reprisal.
- Act as a point of contact for safety related inquiries and feedback.
- Develop and maintain emergency response plans for various scenarios, such as severe weather, fires, or accidents.
- Conduct drills to ensure preparedness.
- Maintain accurate records of safety training, incidents, inspections, and safety related data. Prepare regular reports for management to assess safety performance.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Science, or a related field (preferred).
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or similar safety certifications (preferred).
- Proven experience in safety management, preferably in the construction or roofing industry.
- In-depth knowledge of OSHA regulations and safety standards.
- Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a diverse team.
- Proficient in safety management software.
Physical Demands
- Physical Fitness: Must be in good physical condition to perform inspections and oversee safety protocols on various job sites.
- Mobility: Ability to walk, stand, and move around the roofing site, which may include climbing ladders, scaffolding, and working at heights.
- Manual Dexterity: Ability to handle tools and equipment necessary for safety inspections and emergency responses.
- Vision and Hearing: Good visual acuity to recognize potential hazards, and read safety documents. Good hearing to communicate effectively and detect sounds that may indicate potential issues.
- Strength: Capability to lift and carry safety equipment and materials, which may weigh up to 50 pounds.
- Balance and Coordination: Ability to maintain balance and coordination while working on rooftops and uneven surfaces.
- Endurance: Stamina to spend extended periods outdoors in various weather conditions.
