POSITION: Diesel Mechanic

DIRECT SUPERVISOR: SERVICE MANAGER
OVERVIEW: The Diesel Mechanic is a critical position at DHF, ensuring that equipment and vehicles are in optimal condition for daily use on jobsites and travel. The DM is responsible to ensure that safety procedures are followed within the shop, and that the equipment is functioning safely. The DM has ample experience, leadership skills, training ability and can communicate effectively.
I. ADMINISTRATIVE
A. Represent DH Funk's Mission, Values & Goals.
B. Ensure quality, have a positive attitude, be proactive, be willing to work with others, maintain a good work ethic, take ownership.
C. Exhibit leadership skills in the shop, training others.
D. Assist in training field employees on mechanical aspects of equipment.
E. Complete and submit work orders, electronically if needed.
F. Complete and submit a daily timesheet, electronically if needed.
G. Work closely with the Service Manager, filling in for that position as needed.
H. Communicate with outside customers in a professional manner.
I. Understand cost impact of entire repair and maintanence process.
II. SAFETY
A. Be familiar with and practice all Safety Requirements.
B. Know the location of all Safety Equipment.
C. Consistently and properly use Personal Protection Equipment.
D. Recognize safety hazards and hold fellow employees accountable.
III. MECHANIC SERVICE
A. Perform difficult skilled mechanic work in the diagnostic, repair and reconditioning of equipment, trucks, trailers, and specialized small power equipment for both diesel and gas, and related work as required.
B. Diagnose, service, repair, remove and/or replace engines, differential and hydraulic systems, transmissions, drive trains, brakes components, electrical systems and HVAC systems and components, with minor supervision or assistance.
C. Understand and perform preventative maintenance inspections and procedures on all equipment.
D. Trouble shoot mechanical failures and assist in determining best repair procedures.
E. Perform PA Safety Inspections for automotives and Heavy Trucks.
F. Understand and have knowledge of use of methods, tools, equipment and parts for specified repairs.
G. Operate, correctly, shop tools and machinery, such as drills, presses, grinders, micrometer, welding and cutting equipment, computers (for diagnostics, service and repair), air condition service equipment.
H. Utilize advanced knowledge of how electronic equipment works.
I. Detect worn or broken parts.
J. Distinguish proper repair procedure.
K. Perform complex welding and fabricating as needed.
L. Keep written service records, electronically if needed.
M. Interpret and work from sketches, schematics and installation repair charts.
N. Utilize general computer skills.
O. Follow written and oral instruction accurately.
P. Maintain a clean and orderly work environment, and exercise good housekeeping.
IV. ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
A. In relation to Snow Removal: Mechanics are responsible for servicing and maintaining the DHF Fleet for all snow removal purposes. Mechanics are also expected to assist in the removal of snow on DHF property, as needed. This may require working hours outside of normal assigned hours.
B. In relation to non‐job specific activities: Mechanic A's are required to attend all mandatory Company
Meetings, all applicable Safety Meetings/Training, and Tool Box Talk Meetings.
V. EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
A. High School Diploma or Equivalent
B. 5 years of Skilled Experience and/or Education Repairing Construction, Heavy Truck and/or
Agricultural Equipment
C. Knowledge of Safety
D. PA Safety Inspection License for Automotive and Heavy Trucks
E. License to purchase Freon
VI. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
A. Valid PA Driver's License
B. CDL Class A or B License
C. 18 Years Old or Older
D. Ability to Work in a Team Environment
E. Willingness to Learn
F. Available for Overtime and Saturday hours, as needed
G. Ability to Operate Automotive, Heavy Trucks and Construction Equipment as related to diagnosing and repairing.
H. Possess own Tool Box and Tools, per attached list, and Purchase Additional Tools to complete required work.
