Job Summary:
The Fire Sprinkler Service Technician is responsible for inspecting, testing, maintaining, and repairing fire sprinkler systems to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and enhance occupant safety. This role involves working closely with clients, contractors, and regulatory authorities to address system issues and maintain fire protection system integrity.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct routine inspections and functional testing of wet, dry, and pre-action fire sprinkler systems in accordance with NFPA 25 requirements.
- Prepare comprehensive reports documenting inspection findings, test results, and identified deficiencies to ensure regulatory compliance.
- Evaluate the functionality of sprinkler heads, valves, piping, pumps, and control systems to identify potential issues.
- Inspect piping, fittings, and connections for signs of corrosion, leaks, or damage, recommending necessary repairs or replacements.
- Perform maintenance tasks, including replacing defective components, cleaning pipes and sprinkler heads, lubricating moving parts, and adjusting system settings for optimal performance.
- Inspect and test fire pump assemblies, assessing flow rates, pressure levels, and mechanical integrity.
- Respond promptly to service calls and emergency requests, diagnosing and resolving system malfunctions efficiently.
- Accurately document all service activities, including inspection reports, work orders, and parts usage, using the ServiceTrade operations platform.
- Collaborate with internal teams to provide detailed inspection reports, material needs, and job-related notes for the preparation of timely repair estimates.
- Communicate professionally with clients, scheduling work, explaining inspection findings, addressing concerns, and offering recommendations for system upgrades.
- Work closely with Service Coordinators to optimize work orders, material requisitions, and job scheduling for improved efficiency and customer satisfaction.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment, adhering strictly to safety protocols and industry regulations.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training in fire protection systems preferred.
- Strong knowledge of fire protection codes and regulations, including NFPA 13, NFPA 25, and applicable building and fire codes.
- NICET Level II certification preferred; DPOR certification (backflow and sprinkler) preferred.
- Prior experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of fire sprinkler systems in commercial and industrial settings.
- Excellent troubleshooting skills with the ability to efficiently diagnose and resolve complex system issues.
- Strong communication and customer service skills, with the ability to interact professionally with clients and team members.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record and willingness to travel to client sites as needed.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment.
Physical Requirements:
- Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to handle tools, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Comfortable working in diverse environments, including industrial facilities, commercial buildings, and outdoor settings with exposure to noise, dust, heat, and low-light conditions.
- Capable of standing, walking, bending, and kneeling for extended periods.
- Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces, requiring the use of fall protection equipment.
- Proficient in the use of hand and power tools, including cutting, grinding, drilling, and fastening equipment.
Compensation: $25–$40 per hour, based on experience and qualifications.
