What are the responsibilities and job description for the Direct Support Professional (DSP-Serene) position at D&M CONSULTANTS?
You matter! You can make a difference, in someone's life! Our D&M Consultants family is looking for you! Hiring Direct Support Professionals (DSP) to work part time or full time. Our DSPs work with individuals with life challenges in a home setting and in the community.
Functions of our DSP are (but not limited too):
- Administer medication, as prescribed by the physician. Log receipt and distribution of medications.
- Drive or coordinate transportation for community-integrated activities.
- Prepare nutritious meals according to established guidelines and menus.
- Provide a clean living environment. Assist with routine property maintenance and general household duties.
- Assist with hygiene; this includes oral hygiene, shaving, bathing/showering, and pre/post toileting.
- Assist individuals with setting and achieving goals, instructing them in a variety of skill areas, when possible.
- Document daily activities to include incident reports, progress notes and other required reporting.
- Provide individual services as directed by IPOS and the individuals receiving supports.
- Must be able to teach/train individuals in a variety of skills area.

- Knowledgeable of trauma informed culture to aid individuals in their recovery process emphasizing physical and emotional safety, choice, empowerment, and trustworthiness for the individuals.
Physical Demands and Qualifications for the position included, but are not limited to:
- Must be able to perform physical activities, including lifting up to 50lbs., transferring individuals, walking, pushing wheelchairs, kneeling, bending, reaching and occasionally remaining on feet for long periods of time.
- Must be able to/willing to assist individuals with personal hygiene (both male and female if permission has been granted by guardians) and medical needs.
- Must have ability to drive or coordinate transportation for community-integrated activities.
- Must be able to handle and use cleaning products.
- Must be able to document programming, CLS notes and other required reports.
- May be subject to dealing with a variety of confrontational situations and challenging behavioral situations.
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- 1 year experience working with individual with life challenges.
- Valid Michigan driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
- Interest in and commitment to serving the needs of individuals with life challenges.
- Successful completion of the post-offer process, including criminal background check, OIG check and clearance from the Office of Recipient Rights
- Must satisfactorily complete agency training and orientation as required by state training within specified timeframes.
