Summary:
Prominent LA-based law practice is seeking an experienced Director of Human Resources to oversee all aspects of HR practices and processes. The ideal candidate will possess a strong HR background, exceptional communication skills and a passion for fostering a positive, inclusive and productive work environment. This newly created role is on-site (Monday through Friday) and reports to the Chief Operating Officer.
Responsibilities include:
- Align HR strategies with the Firm’s overall strategy.
- Proactively ensure compliance with all relevant workplace federal, state and local laws and regulations.
- Create systems and maintain personnel and employment data in accordance with best practices.
- Maintain the Firm Handbook and ensure adherence to policies and procedures.
- Address employee questions, concerns, conflicts and grievances in a fair and compassionate manner.
- Conduct initial investigations of employee concerns, document findings, analyze situations and forward to Management, as necessary.
- Manage non-attorney staffing, recruiting and onboarding, including writing job descriptions, coordinating interviews, developing recruitment strategies, extending offers of employment, conducting pre-employment checks, managing orientations and integrations.
- Serve as a liaison between Human Resources and other business units.
- Develop and implement a performance management system to manage employee productivity effectively.
- Develop programs to address performance gaps.
- Conduct Human Resources education trainings.
- Administer employee benefits programs, including health and retirement plans.
- Oversee employee relations to cultivate a positive, inclusive and engaged workplace culture.
- Competencies:
- Demonstrated ability to understand and apply federal, state and local employment laws or court precedents, including OSHA, ADA, FLSA, EEO, ADEA and FMLA.
- Advanced knowledge of general HR practices, principles and federal and California regulations.
- A self-starter with meticulous attention to detail, organizational proficiency and a proactive approach, demonstrating initiative and accountability while fostering teamwork.
- Proficient in time management, adept at swiftly and effectively multitasking.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills including active listening, verbal and written communications skills.
- Commitment to upholding the confidentiality of sensitive information and records.
- Exemplary professionalism, coupled with the capacity for initiative, diplomacy and tactful interaction.
- Ability to communicate effectively, timely and appropriately across various stakeholders.
- Demonstrated prowess in supervision and leadership.
Requirements:
- A Bachelor’s degree (REQUIRED).
- SHRM certification (REQUIRED).
- 10 years of human resources experience with at least 8 years in managerial positions (REQUIRED).
- Exceptional judgment and analytical skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word Suite and iManage.
- Previous experience with HR applicant tracking software.
- Proven knowledge of law firm organizational structure.
- Reliably commute to the firm's West LA office (90067) five days a week.
- Travel as needed within California.
Annual Salary/Compensation:
Salary is up to 225K (DOE/DOQ).
