What are the responsibilities and job description for the Airfield Specialist position at DA Defense Logistics HQ?
Overview The Airfield Specialist supports the Assistant Airfield Manager by providing expert knowledge and services to ensure efficient and safe airfield operations. This role involves reviewing completed work, ensuring compliance with airfield maintenance and safety standards, and providing technical expertise for airfield construction and maintenance projects.
Responsibilities
- Recommend policies concerning the establishment and improvement of airfield support activities and airfield management procedures in support of military and civilian operations.
- Participates with the Air Operations (AO) Officer/COR when interacting with the Bahrain International Airport authorities.
- Conduct daily airfield inspections of all U.S. leased areas at the star of the duty day and report results on established checklist. Conduct additional airfields check as required or requested by the COR IAW NATOPS
- Knowledge in all facets of airfield inspections and the determination of actions to be taken to correct identified deficiencies. Participates in the development and execution of a locally established checklist/diagram to conduct and document airfield inspections/check (IAW NATOPS 00-08T-124 Chapter 7).
- Provide briefings to maintenance and airfield personnel on airfield operations as well as the proper use of radios and basic communications procedures.
- Monitor airfield areas daily via direct visual inspection to prevent unsafe conditions and ensure continued use of facilities. Determine hazards to personnel proposing work on the airfield to include safety/security requirements and other procedures to be followed in performing their work. Record all unsafe activities and events/conditions conflicting with applicable NSA instructions
- Assist in planning and inspecting airfield improvements, repairs, and continuing operations. Provide technical recommendations to the Operations Officer, Air Operations (AO) Officer, and COR on all upcoming projects, and status updates for ongoing projects.
- Communicate with flying tenant’s units to develop/provide understanding of flight line support requirements ensuring each command has the ability to maintain the highest degree of readiness. Assist the tenant commands with flight line facilities issues.
- Provide analysis and recommendations on information, documents, briefings, etc. which has been received from Bahrain International Airport (BIA) or from Bahrain Airport Company (BAC). Attend applicable BIA or BAC meetings in support of the AO Officer/COR.
- Identify required special projects, develop goals, milestones, and submit recommendations to the COR.
- Prepare, maintain, and update a daily parking plan to meet airflow requirements and airfield restrictions in coordination in accordance with airfield management principles.
Qualifications
- Four (4) years experience assisting in the AFM daily operations of the airfield.
- Knowledge of military airfield functions, UFC, ICAO, and FAA Circular Guidelines
- Experience briefing preparation and presentation large groups and senior level officers
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
- Demonstrate ability to prepare and deliver point/position paper
- Active DOD SECRET clearance or ability to obtain no later than 15 calendar days prior to connecting Period of Performance
