FULL/PART TIME PRIMARY PARAPRO
Primary School (PreSchool - Fifth Grade)
REPORTS TO :
Primary Principal and Classroom Teacher

RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Flexible in carrying out assignments
- Committed to supporting instruction in a non-traditional manner
- Ability to work with many different levels in one classroom
- Aware of Nurtured Heart Approach and ability to apply those principles in the classroom
- Assist classroom teacher in providing instruction and managing student educational programming.
- Adapt instructional materials, equipment, or strategies, under the direction of the teacher or other professionals, to provide differentiated instruction, accomplish objectives and meet student needs.
- Assist licensed staff in the implementation of classroom management and behavioral interventions, creating an environment appropriate for learning.
- Facilitate activities with a student or small group under the direction of the teacher.
- Assist students with developing appropriate social skills and behavior, through a variety of methods including modeling, lessons, incentive plans, and charting.
- Recess and lunch duties
QUALIFICATIONS :
- Complete at least two years of study at an institution of higher education (equal to 60 semester hours); or
- Obtain an associate's degree (or higher); or
- Meet a rigorous standard of quality and demonstrate, through a formal state or local academic assessment:
- Knowledge of, and the ability to assist in, instructing reading, writing and mathematics; or
- Knowledge of, and the ability to assist in, instructing reading readiness, writing readiness and mathematics readiness, as appropriate
- Have compassion for students
- Must be able to use individual teaching methods according to the child’s learning style
- Have the ability to administer and evaluate tests and measurements of achievement
- Satisfactory completion of criminal background check
- Strong skills in the core areas of education; reading, writing and math
- Preference given to those applicants that have previous experience working with children
