Purpose of Role
The Education Department at Daemen University is seeking a qualified adjunct instructor for a course in our Childhood Education and Inclusive Childhood Education programs. The selected candidate will be responsible for teaching EDU 320, with oversight by the Chair of the Education Department for curriculum alignment and certification requirements.
About This Opportunity
Joining our Education team, the Adjunct Instructor will be responsible for the following:
EDU 320: Elementary Education Methods: Math, Science, and Technology (3 credits) Catalog Description: Practicum Level Course. This course provides an in-depth study of the major elements of an elementary level mathematics program, as well as an in-depth study of the major knowledge, concepts, and processes related to elementary level science instruction. Primary attention is directed toward an examination of the multiple/alternative methods and materials utilized in mathematics and science instruction. Taken with the practicum level course block. Student Learning Outcomes: (1) Compare the contributions of major learning theorists to the field of education as they apply to teaching math and science; (2) Connect mathematics, science, and technology through thematic and strategic planning; (3) Design differentiated lesson plans in math and science that are age-appropriate for the elementary classroom; (4) Select and integrate technology in lessons/activities to support the learning of math and science; and (5) Utilize and justify the selection of appropriate pedagogy as it relates to teaching science and mathematics across a spectrum of abilities.
$3000 per semester
Required Qualifications
Expertise in the standards of and methods for teaching math, science, and technology at the elementary level (Grades 1-6) NYS teacher certification in Childhood Education (Grades 1-6) At least three years teaching experience in Grades 1-6 or similar relevant experience
Preferred Qualifications:
Teaching experience in higher education/teacher preparation NYS teacher certification in Students with Disabilities (Grades 1-6), Math (Grades 7-12), or Science (Grades 7-12)
