Key Accountabilities
Job Title
Important Tasks / Activities / Outcomes
Data Collection:
- Conduct geological field surveys, including mapping, sampling, and recording structural features such as faults, folds, and joints in rock formations.
- Use GPS, GIS, and other surveying tools to accurately document geological features and locations.
- Identify and analyze rock types and their structural relationships in the field.
- Ensure the proper handling and preservation of rock samples for laboratory analysis.
- Maintain a detailed field notebook with accurate and organized data on geological observations.
Data Analysis & Interpretation:
- Analyze field and laboratory data to interpret geological processes, including deformation, metamorphism, and tectonic events.
- Utilize petrographic analysis and microscopy to examine rock samples and identify mineralogical and textural characteristics.
- Integrate geological data with regional tectonic models to assess the larger-scale geological context of the studied area.
Modelling & Software Utilization:
- Use geological modeling software (e.g., Leapfrog, Vulcan) to create 3D models of geological structures.
- Simulate various geological scenarios (e.g., folding, faulting) to assess how stress and strain affect rock formations over time.
Risk Assessment & Impact Evaluation:
- Assess the impact of geological structures on resource exploration, engineering projects, and environmental risks, providing recommendations for mitigation and design adjustments.
- Assess the feasibility of resource extraction based on the structural geology of the region.
Communication & Collaboration:
- Prepare comprehensive geological reports, including field findings, data analysis, and structural interpretations, to inform project stakeholders.
- Collaborate with engineers, environmental scientists, and other professionals to ensure geological considerations are integrated into project planning and decision-making.

Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Geology.
Experience
- 6 years in geological fieldwork, including mapping, data collection, with a minimum 2 years structural analysis in various geological settings.
Designations & Certifications
- Professional Geologist (P.Geo) with APEGA, OGQ or other RPO legislative body, in good standing or working towards certification.
- Standard First Aid and CPR level C.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Expertise in structural geology, tectonics, petrology, and spatial analysis.
- Proficiency in geological field mapping, sample collection, GPS/GIS technology, and working safely in challenging environments.
- Use of modeling software (e.g., Leapfrog), geophysical techniques, and mathematical/statistical analysis.
- Strong report writing, presentation, and teamwork skills.
Working Conditions
Fieldwork
- Exposure to harsh weather, challenging terrain, and potential hazards like wildlife and adverse conditions.
- Geotechnical core logging requires lifting up to 60 lbs and sustained concentration.
