This role is a contract position lasting about 9 months to support our onsite team with the day-to-day Human Resources functions while our team goes through Workday Implementation.
Location: In office, Staunton, VA.
What you will do:
- Maintain knowledge of legal requirements and government reporting regulations in their areas of responsibility
- Counsel employees regarding human resource policies and procedures relative to transfer, promotion, pay, benefits, and condition of employment
- Conducts new hire orientations; periodically reviews materials distributed during orientation and in recruitment packets and updates or recommends improvements
- Process status changes and updates the HRIS system for hires, terminations, job changes, salary/wage changes, benefit changes, personal data changes, etc.
- Administer workers compensation programs, prepares first report of injury, and maintains records of accidents for OSHA reporting
- Monitor existing workers compensation claims and ensures that progress is made in rehabilitating employees; coordinates the return to work program
- Administer benefit programs such as life, health, dental, and disability insurances, 401k plans, vacation, sick leave, leave of absence, and employee assistance for their location
- Keep records of benefit plan participation and prepares employee benefit materials packets for the annual open enrollment
- Administers union labor agreements including job bidding, transfers, wage changes, department changes, and discipline logs, etc.
- Participate on Safety Committees, attend union grievance meetings, and assist with union negotiations preparations, may participate in union negotiations as requested
- Maintain Human Resources files including employee files, medical/workers compensation files, training records, and other employee records
- Administer Service Award program
- Prepare reports, as requested
- Respond to inquiries regarding benefits, retirements, and other Human Resources policies, procedures, and programs
- Monitor salaried and hourly attendance
- Prepare employee separation notices and related documentation, conduct exit interviews, ensure exit checklist is completed, prepare information for the state unemployment agency, attend unemployment hearings as needed
Qualifications:
- 4-year bachelor's degree
- 3 years related experience and/or training
- PHR or SPHR certification preferred
- This is a temporary position projected to last up to 9 months
