Daikin Applied is seeking a Welding Trainer to provide designated skills, training, and support to the assigned business unit for new and existing employees. Under general direction, they will provide classroom and hands-on training, TWI-JI training, training evaluation, performance improvement projects, new trainer training, and factory ASME qualification support.
Location: In office, Staunton, VA.
Shift: 2nd shift, 2pm-10pm
What you will do:
- Work with Manufacturing Skills Manager to establish and display Dojo safety metrics
- Work in a safe manner and ensure trainees working in the Dojo follow all plant safety requirements, taking corrective action to maintain safety standards, if required
- Confer with management and quality staff to determine training objectives and coordinate and standardize welding processes
- Use the quality tools, ADDIE & BEM (Models) and TWI-JI to create training programs to include writing outlines, handouts, and tests, and designing hands-on exercises
- Schedule classes based on skills requirement and classroom and student availability working collaboratively with the local management team to coordinate training
- Responsible for maintaining inventory of welding parts and materials needed for dojo
- Provides classroom and hands-on weld training to new and transfer employees including new welder training, advanced training, OJT trainer training, “A” Trainer Training, and DIL qualification training according to the DIL qualification achieved
- Oversee hands-on training, personally demonstrate procedures being taught, observe trainees in dojo, provide coaching and answers to trainee questions
- Administer written and practical exams to measure employees theoretical learning and evaluates trainees' learning transfer through hand-on/demonstrative activities providing appropriate feedback during training and validating weld skills
- Works with management regarding trainees who have not successfully obtained the skills and knowledge required to weld HVAC units to ASME standards providing remedial training as appropriate
- Ensure training records and files are maintained appropriately conducting annual training filed audits and providing feedback to location management ensuring corrective actions are taken, if needed
- Conduct regular audits of weld practices on shop floor to ensure training has transferred from the classroom to the floor and employees are using appropriate techniques and sustaining newly learned skills providing feedback on audits to auditees and Manufacturing Skills Manager via monthly reports
- Ensure 5S principles are followed in the dojo training area serving as a model for the rest of the plant
- Participate in meetings, seminars, and training sessions to obtain information useful to training facilities and integrate information into training program
- Assist with Kaizen teams, RCCA activities, CPI projects, JKS and TWI OJT support, special projects, and NPI projects to prevent and correct related defects
- Work with the 3rd party ASME auditor to ensure and maintain factory ASME qualification
- Work to continually improve own subject matter skills and knowledge related to training and the Production of Daikin System and Quality
- Support other Daikin factories in the Americas region regarding weld processes, weld quality improvements, training, skills competitions, and trainer training (in accordance with the DIL qualification level achieved)
- Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED
- AWS Certified Welding Inspector
- AWS Certified Welding Educator
- ARSTC “A” Trainer Qualification
- 3 years' experience welding in a manufacturing environment
