Provides overall direction for the business unit quality function through the development, implementation, and monitoring of policies and procedures consistent with organizational requirements and corporate standards. As a member of the business unit, Strategic Group directs quality activities on the business unit in order to improve the processes, procedures, methods, and materials used in the repair and overhaul processes while ensuring product quality is maintained and striving for continuous improvements.

Position Responsibilities May Include
- Directs strategic business unit quality activities and resources including supervision and training of personnel, representing quality functions. Develops, implements, and monitors business unit quality policies and procedures consistent with company and strategic business unit objectives.
- Continuously monitors quality data (warranty, product rectification, customer satisfaction, etc.) for improvement opportunities across the business unit. Leads the business unit strategic group on the selection and management of improvement initiatives.
- Develops and maintains an organizational structure on the business unit staffed with qualified personnel for the performance of quality activities.
- Manages the development and maintenance of methods and systems for measuring the degree by which the business unit’s quality goals, objectives, and standards are being met.
- Leads the business unit quality audit and corrective action process by providing training, facilitation, recommendations, and leadership, as required to achieve optimal results.
- Interfaces with marketing, operations, and engineering to establish quality requirements on individual products and services on the basis of customer needs, the fit, form, and function of the product, and to ensure that quality considerations are properly addressed as early as possible in the product or process design stage.
- Maintains currency on regulatory requirements and quality standards.
- Seeks new quality methodologies for implementation in support of business unit strategic initiatives.
- Exercises authority in hiring, training, career development, performance appraisal, salary adjustments, promotion, discipline, health, safety, and the general employee relations of direct reports.
- Actively participates in the appropriate management team(s), assisting with the development and realization of strategic plans, budgets, goals, and outcomes.
- Develop and monitor corrective measures
- Plan, and monitor the testing process, and inspect the products to ensure their quality
- Carries out special projects as assigned
- Perform additional projects/duties to support ongoing business needs.
- Develops and implements strategic plans and objectives for the department/sub-function in an effective and innovative fashion.
- Understands the business and can put together comprehensive department solutions.
- Works with other leaders to establish strategic plans and works towards achieving them.
- Provides leadership and direction to managers in their respective division/department.
- Sees department staffing needs (e.g., interviewing, hiring, new hire and ongoing training, annual evaluations, etc.)
- Participates in budget development and monitoring of expenses.
- Level of signing authority established by company policy/guidelines.
- High level of knowledge in project management methods with experience in project costing to drive waste streams, solid technical background (HVAC preference), able to lead/drive reliability, ISO9001/14001, and supplier quality improvements
- Effective internal and external communication skills, including public speaking, presentation development, meeting organization/facilitation, clear conveyance & transmission of information through written & verbal form
- Effective collaboration and interpersonal skills, relationship management and team building skills
- Ability to apply actionable judgement, decision making skills, and strong work ethics and integrity on the job
- Effective leadership skills, fostering employee development, delegation, and performance
- Ability to understand quality data and effectively communicate to others
- Effective problem-solving acumen to effectively eliminate root causes, utilizing DMAIC, Design of Experiment, 6 Sigma methods, FMEA, 8 Disciplines, lean methods, etc.
- Having relevant experience in quality inspection, auditing, and testing is an added advantage
- Ability to apply good judgment, strong work ethic, and integrity on the job.
Experience:
- 15-20 years of experience in a manufacturing environment is preferable
- 15-20 years of supervisory experience – A leadership role
- Bachelor Degree Engineering, Mechanical Industrial: or equivalent Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) by a provincial association of professional engineers.
- CQE certification would be an asset
