Primary Purpose:
Helps emergent bilinguals whose first language is NOT English to reach fluency in English as their second language. Provides direct English-language support to emergent bilinguals and implement sheltered instructions with linguistic accommodations for students identified with Emergent Bilingual. Works under supervision of certified teacher. Assist teacher in preparation and management of classroom instructional activities.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education/Certificate
High School diploma or GED (Recognized by the Texas Education Agency or Regional Accrediting Agency)
Valid Texas Educational Aide certificate NCLB Certification Required
Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50) paid by employee.
Required Experience:
Experience working with children and young people.
Knowledge/Skills:
Bilingual (Spanish/English) capability

Instructional Management
The aide promotes improvement of instruction through activities such as the following:
- Assists the teacher in preparing instructional materials, paperwork, and classroom displays with
- Assists with administration (translation of text and in oral delivery) and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments.
- Serves as ESL tutor with linguistic support, in any area assigned by teacher with focus on student identified as Emergent Bilingual.
- Works with individual students or small student groups to conduct instructional activities and develop academic skills as outlined by the
- Assists teachers in implementing program objectives that support developmental, behavioral, and academic student performance.
- Assumes responsibility for learning and adapting to each student’s special medical, physical, communicative, and emotional needs.
- Works with individual students or small groups to develop motor skills and conduct instructional exercises assigned by the classroom
- Assists in the supervision of students throughout the school day, inside and outside classroom. This includes lunchroom, bus, and playground
