What are the responsibilities and job description for the FSQA Manager position at Daily's Premium Meats?
Under the direction of the FSQA Senior Director, this position is responsible for delivering food safety, quality assurance, and R&D products and services to approximately 300 non-union hourly and salaried/clerical associates. These services include, but are not limited to, assessing needs and facilitating communication among employees and management, adhering to Company policies and procedures, regulatory compliance with USDA and customers, design of plant systems, customer audits, GMP’s, ATP/APC testing, sanitation programs and SSOP, pest control, HACCP development and training, and specification writing and training.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Fluent English and the ability to speak Spanish a plus. Ability to interact and effectively speak and communicate with Senior Executives, customers and employees.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to apply basic math, statistics, and algebra concepts.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Basic computer skills and knowledge of standard programs including, but not limited to: Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and HRIS including data entry, reporting and query procedures.
Must be flexible, adaptable to change, able to work in fast paced environment, ability to meet deadlines, demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and projects, exceptional organizational skills, and demonstrated accuracy and attention to detail. Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision and has sound judgment skills.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately quiet.
NORMAL WORK SCHEDULE: The hours and days of work are established by departmental needs and at the discretion of management.
BACKUP: In the event that the FSQA Manager is unable to perform his/her job function, the FSQA Director can step in.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

- POLICIES & PROCEDURES: Maintain, communicates and trains written policies and procedures. Formulates and recommends to operations and the Director of Quality Assurance new policies or changes to current policies where needed. Conducts a continuing review of all QA and food safety policies, programs and practices to keep the company abreast of current practices and informed of new developments. Supports, communicates and trains to assist operations in ensuring that training, testing, and new product development is done in compliance with applicable USDA, customer, and company standards.
- HACCP, GMP, SSOP: Maintain, update, and monitor all facets of these programs with respect to USDA, customers, and company requirements.
- Interact with USDA on all levels concerning issues with plant policies, facility, and programs. Daily interaction and direction of subordinates with respect to local representative and higher officials. Maintain and update all required records and non-compliance issues.
- APPRAISALS. Communicates and supports performance appraisal system to assist operations in ensuring fairness of associate appraisals.
- COMPLIANCE. Ensures compliance with all company food safety and QA policies and procedures. Responsible for assisting assigned locations in ensuring mandatory information is maintained and gathered annually, pursuant to company policies and procedures. Conduct investigations with support of operations and support departments, to ensure constancy.
- TRAINING & ORIENTATION. Develops and performs training programs relating to all areas of HACCP, food safety, and QA policies and procedures. Evaluates, advises and conducts orientation programs. Conduct training on QA and food safety related topics to ensure compliance with USDA, customer, and management development topics.
- Analyzes turnover data, exit interviews, advises and coordinates activities as needed with operations. Support areas with retention of salary and hourly employees.
- FEDERAL & STATE COMPLIANCE. Works closely with operations to assist in ensuring compliance with USDA requirements.
- Responds to questions regarding the understanding, interpretation, and implementation of food safety, QA, and R&D policies and procedures, which may come from the field staff and employees.
- CODE OF CONDUCT& BUSINESS ETHICS. Must adhere to Seaboard Foods Code of Conduct and Business Ethics policy including the documentation and reporting responsibilities.
- Bachelor’s degree in food science, agriculture, or related field. HACCP certification a must.
- Minimum of three years experience in a QA/ food safety generalist role with supervisory experience.
- Seasoned knowledge of laws and regulations relating to general QA management (USDA, food safety audits, Labeling, Micro testing, GMP, SSOP).
- Ability to work well with others with diverse backgrounds and at various organizational levels.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with the ability to deliver professional services.
- Talent for multitasking, with superior attention to detail and organized.
- Ability to work well both independently and in teams.
- Ability to meet deadlines in a timely manner.
