SUMMARY: Join our team at Daily's Premium Meats as a Safety Manager, where you'll play a crucial role in driving environmental and safety initiatives at our St. Joseph, MO plant. As the Safety Manager, you will lead efforts to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations while promoting a culture of continuous improvement in environmental stewardship and workplace safety. You will also be responsible for ensuring the safety around major capital improvement and growth projects for Daily’s Premium Meats.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned:
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree in a safety, environmental or related field of study. Experience working as a safety and environmental professional with a proven track record of continuous improvement, and implementing programs and procedures that control, eliminate and prevent injuries and environmental incidents preferred. Extensive knowledge of state and federal laws/regulations (e.g., OSHA, EPA, DEQ) preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Must be fluent in English. Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures and governmental regulations. Ability to write routine reports, business correspondence and procedural/training manuals (SOP, JSA, JHA, JDP, etc.) Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups, managers, clients, customers, government agencies and the general public.
REASONING ABILITY AND MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to define and solve practical problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to apply mathematical formulas to practical situations. Demonstrated business acumen linking safety performance with business results.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally. Must be able to climb ladders and platforms and enter confined spaces. Work in cold and warm temperature environment. Able to wear applicable personal protective equipment as needed.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work environment includes a normal office environment as well as climate extremes found in the production operations. Travel is required to remote facilities and/or corporate offices for training and meetings. Noise level varies with area of production the employee is working in.
NORMAL WORK SCHEDULE: The hours and days of work are established as needed by operations and at the discretion of management. Must be able to work a flexible schedule as necessary and be “on-call” to respond to emergency situations.
BACKUP: In the event that the Safety Manager is unable to perform his/her job function, the General Manager can step in.

- Build a Safety-First Culture: Engage hourly and salary team members to build a culture where safety comes first at the site. Manage the Behavioral Based Safety program and ensure 100% safety engagement.
- Primary EHS Contact: Serve as the primary contact for plant related EHS issues, actively involved in all aspects of plant operations to promote environmental compliance, protection, and a safe work environment.
- Workers Compensation Management: Manage Workers Compensation claims, assigning Temporary Alternate Work (TAW) and facilitating the return of injured employees to full duty promptly to minimize claim costs.
- Regulatory Compliance: Assist plant leadership and staff in understanding EHS permits, regulations, and standards, integrating EHS principles to prevent workplace injuries, operational hazards, and environmental impacts.
- Compliance Management: Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal laws, regulations, permits, and company policies in environmental, health, and safety, including oversight of programs such as the Storm Water Pollution Prevention Program and Wastewater Systems regulation compliance.
- Process Safety Management (PSM): Collaborate closely with the Maintenance Department to manage the electronic Process Safety Management (PSM) system, using APSM PSM software, and oversee activities related to the Plant Ammonia System.
- Corrective Action: Drive timely completion of corrective actions associated with near-miss incidents, injury investigations, environmental incidents, physical hazards, and compliance inspections.
- Auditing and Record Keeping: Design and conduct comprehensive environmental and safety audits for compliance and continuous improvement. Ensure all records are maintained in compliance with relevant environmental and safety laws and regulations.
- Regulatory Updates: Stay updated on new developments, laws, and regulations in the EHS field, assessing their potential impact on company operations and presenting findings to HR/Safety Manager.
- Training and Communication: Regularly train and communicate EHS compliance and performance results, including OSHA Incident Rate, Root Cause Analysis, Injury Trends, monthly safety topics, and first aid/CPR/AED training. Provide EHS training during New Employee Orientations.
- Reporting: Create reports using software such as Excel and PowerPoint to effectively communicate EHS data and insights.
