SUMMARY : The Plant Senior Operations Manager is responsible for leading production, plant operations, sanitation, and safety while driving excellence and an engaging culture. The Senior Operations Manager oversees scheduling for maintenance PMs and project work, enforces policies, and ensures smooth operations. This role will be the backup to the Plant Manager. Success in this role requires strong attention to detail, flexibility to navigate peak work cycles, and a commitment to maintaining high standards across all areas of the plant.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES including the following : Establish and ensure that safety policies and procedures are always followed.Fill in and relieve the Plant Manager in their absence.Oversee day-to-day plant operations, identifying problems and developing and implementing corrective and preventative measures.Utilize continuous improvement methodologies to realize yield and efficiency gains.Review and maintain updated production schedules.Work closely with Senior Manager of Planning to ensure adequate supplies are available.Follow production reports and troubleshoot any issues during operation. Report concerns and offers potential solutions for timely resolution.Ensure operations personnel follow the established procedures for start-up, operation, and shutdown of the plant.Train and develop production and sanitation managers, supervisors, and department leads for future growth and opportunities.Maintain and review proper records and logs of activities and operating conditions, and down time finding solutions to reoccurrences.Understand, support and help implement / maintain the Quality Management System (QMS), Operating Policies, and Daily's safety programs.Interface with customers, suppliers, vendors, senior staff, staff support.Understand, support and help implement goals and objectives, and ongoing improvement plans and activities.Provide leadership in professionalism and ethics.Lead and Facilitate production meetings with direct reports.Suggest and implement cost-saving measures.Be a leader and driving force for continuous improvement.Perform other duties and assignments as directed.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES : Oversees the work of Production Managers and Supervisors, Sanitation team, and Hourly employees in a union environment. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training new employees, planning, assigning, directing work and resolving problems. Will be required to perform annual performance reviews of all direct reports.EDUCATION and / or EXPERIENCE : A bachelor's degree is strongly preferred, with ten (10) or more years of progressive experience. Prior experience in food manufacturing is preferred.LANGUAGE / COMMUNICATION SKILLS : Ability to read, analyze, and interpret in the English language correspondence, general business reports, professional journals, technical procedures or Government regulations. Ability to write clear, accurate and concise reports and business correspondence. Must be ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from Supervisors, regulators, consultants, and the upper management. Bilingual (Spanish) is preferred.MATHEMATICAL SKILLS : Ability to apply mathematical formulas to practical situations. REASONING ABILITY : Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Must be able to make decisions on routine matters of policies. Ability to define and solve practical problems, collect and analyze data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to deal with several abstract and concrete variables in handling situations.ELECTRONIC SOFTWARE. Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint to prepare and develop schedules, reports, and tracking information. Will be responsible for navigating and understanding operational aspects of the company's ERP system (M3). Will aid in configuration and maintenance of plant's CAT squared production tracking systems and QC systems. DECISION MAKING RESPONSIBILITIES : Will observe, recommend, and oversee implementation of any needed changes of operations for approval by the Plant Manager. Have formal and informal daily contact with Plant Manager and Department Managers. Suggest changes involving programs, policies, and procedures to the Plant Manager using sound logic and data analysis. Good organizational and writing skills necessary to track and document production reports.PHYSICAL DEMANDS : Lift 50 lbs. occasionally. Must be able to efficiently and effectively move to all areas of production. Must be able to climb ladders or platforms. Must be able to wear all safety and production-related equipment.WORK ENVIRONMENT : Work environment varies from an office setting, production floor and outside climate conditions, based on the situation. Noise level may vary within areas of the plant. Must be able to tolerate cold (45 degrees or colder) and wet conditions.NORMAL WORK SCHEDULE : The hours and days of work are established as needed by operations and at the discretion of management and may be adjusted (increased or decreased) by management as required.
