Soils Laboratory Overview
The Dairy One Soils Lab is a growing business unit within Dairy One. We provide customers with a variety of soil analyses including nutrient analysis, pH, and organic matter analysis along with several supplemental services. The data from this analysis are used to provide the grower with the information to increase their productivity and optimize crop yields. Our customers can include anyone from large farms to consulting firms to homeowners.
Job Responsibilities
Associate degree in a science field and at least 1 year of lab experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. A background in production is also desirable. Proficient computer skills, preferably using Microsoft Word and Excel. Experience following specific protocols/instructions. The ability to multitask and prioritize work is a requirement of this position along with close attention to detail.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in a laboratory where there is exposure to chemicals and dust. The use of protective safety equipment is required.
Physical Activity And Requirements
Ability to perform tasks with repetitive motions of hands and wrists. Ability to lift 50 pounds is required. Ability to work with required PPE and adhere to all safety protocols.
High School Diploma or GED, and 1 year of prior work experience following specific protocols/instructions.

Job Responsibilities
- Sample Intake which involves receiving samples and confirming sample manifests, checking payments, organizing samples for processing by grouping samples into the requested analysis and moving samples to drying ovens.
- Memorizing analysis codes and crop codes to ensure accurate processing.
- Creating next day worklists for samples received using excel.
- Sample preparation which can include grinding soil samples and scooping samples for nutrient, pH, and organic matter analysis, or supplemental testing.
- Operation of and troubleshooting specialized equipment including ICP, discrete analyzer, automatic weigher, conductivity meter, pH robot
- Confirming accurate results, comparing QA/QC samples and uploading results to our LIMS system.
- Laboratories clean up including dishes and dusting
- Customer Service through answering customer questions by phone or email and occasionally taking in person sample drop offs.
- Preparation of reagents including stock and working solutions and making standard curves. This includes working with strong chemicals and adhering to safety protocols.
- Ability to interpret and follow standard operating procedures.
