What are the responsibilities and job description for the School Social Worker position at Daisy Bronson Middle/Littleton High School?
JOB GOAL:
To promote and enhance the overall academic mission by providing social work services that strengthen home/school/community partnerships and alleviate barriers to student learning. Integrates counseling and student assistance services with other school-based programs designed to increase resilience and improve social and emotional well-being, resulting in improved academic performance.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
For Students:
1. Establish and facilitate short/long-term student support groups
2. Provide crisis intervention
3. Develop social and emotional intervention strategies to increase academic success
4. Assist with conflict resolution and anger management
5. Help students develop appropriate social interaction skills
6. Assist students in their understanding and acceptance of self and others
For Parents/Guardians/Families:
1. Interview families to assess problems affecting student’s educational progress and /or adjustment
2. Work with parents to facilitate support in their child’s learning
3. Work with families to help alleviate stress to enable the child to function effectively in school and community
4. Assist parents in accessing programs available to meet their child’s social or emotional support needs
5. Assist parents in accessing and utilizing school and community resources
6. Provide parent/guardian educational workshops on identified issues
For School Personnel:
1. Provide essential information to better understand the factors affecting a student’s performance and behavior
2. Develop staff in-service training programs
3. Collaborate with school administration to assist teachers
4. Collaborate effectively with the Student Support Team (SST) to support the social and emotional needs of our school community
5. As a school-community liaison:
6. Build bridges between schools, parents, and community resources
7. Obtain and coordinate community resources to meet student's needs
8. Help school districts receive adequate support from social and mental health agencies
9. Help the system respond effectively to each student’s needs
