Job Title : AV  Field Technician

Location : Sarasota, FL

Overview :

Daisy is a national smart space installation and services company that simplifies smart home and office technology to make it work optimally, solving one of the biggest in-home problems today and bringing more joy into the lives of our clients.

Duties & Responsibilities :

AVS Technician must be capable to install a residential structured cabling system using a tree and branch design. Each level shall have a least (1) horizontal trunk. Each horizontal trunk shall be connected with a vertical trunk.

  • Horizontal trunks – All horizontal trunks must be tightly bundled together using zip ties or Velcro. The trunks must be securely attached to the structure framework (i.e. trusts).
  • Vertical trunks – All vertical trunks must be tightly bundled together using zip ties or Velcro. The trunks must be securely attached to the structure framework (i.e. studs).
  • Service provider drop – The service provider drop must enter the facility at or near the electrical service entry
  • Grounding – The SMC enclosure must be grounded to grounding spike at outdoor service provider demark

Protection

  • Standoffs – All cabling around doors and windows must be set off from the opening using standoffs
  • Nail plates – All cabling running through 4” or less framing must be protected with nail plates Conduit – AVS Technician must be capable to installing conduit raceways.
  • Structured Media Enclosures (SMC) – Cable Technician must be able to install structured media enclosures and distribution panels within the SMC. All cabling within SMC must be combed and securely fastened with zip ties or other strapping

    Termination – AVS Technician must be capable to terminate all cables compliant with the appropriate standard (TIA-568A or TIA-568B)

  • Keystones – All cables terminated in wall plates must be terminated with the corresponding keystone. The supported keystones include but are not limited to CAT 5, CAT 6, RG6, RCA 110, and speaker binding posts.
  • Distribution panels – All cables terminated in the SMC must be terminate to the corresponding distribution panel, splitter, or junction connectors
  • Ends and connectors – All other cables must be terminated with the corresponding end including but not limited to RJ-45, RJ-11, RG6, phoenix connector, 3.5 mm stereo or mono jack.
  • Security contacts – All reed switches must be connected to 22 / 2 security drop using jelly filled beanie connectors. The security loop must be tested for open and closed loop states
  • Testing – AVS Technician must test all cable according to the prescribed testing procedures

  • Category cable – All CAT 5 and CAT 6 cabling must be tested for continuity and proper termination using a LAN Cable Tester
  • Security loops – All security must be tested for continuity and proper open and closed states
  • Equipment Mounts – AVS Technician must be capable of mounting various A / V equipment.

  • Flat panel displays – All television mounts must be securely fasten to a structured frame such as a wall stud or block wall. Fastening devices include but not limited to lag bolts, winged toggle bolt assemblies, concrete lag sleeve, or redhead anchors
  • Cameras – All cameras must be securely fasten to the structure using the appropriate fastener
  • Speakers – All ceiling speakers must be mounted in properly cut ceiling cutout. Cutout may be accomplished by installing matching speaker ring prior to drywall. Required cutouts on finished ceiling must not extend under supporting trusts. Verify all ceiling speaker obstructions before making cutout
  • Security systems – AVS Technician must be capable of installing and configuring DSC security panels.

  • Install security sensors - All contact drops in a security zone must be connected in series using jelly filled beanie connectors. The side of the security loop must be connected to security zone using a 5600 ohm resistor.
  • Install security panels – Connect a 16.5 VAC power supply to the power terminal. Connect a 12V battery to the battery terminal. Connect all active sensors devices to the 12 VDC AUX terminal. Connect all bus devices such as keypads and expander modules to the RS-485 bus (A & B terminal)
  • Configure security panel – Configure each zone type (delay 1, delay 2, instant, interior). Configure all partitions. Configure panel for monitoring in coordination with monitoring company
  • Access Control – AVS Technician must be capable of installing access control systems and peripherals

  • Access controller – Install access control panel. Connect door RFID readers to RS-485 bus. Install all dry contract entry devices such as keypads and key switches to corresponding contact closure sensor. Install locking device conductors to corresponding door zone. Install battery backup modules.
  • Readers – Install RFID and biometric readers at door entries. Install reader diodes.
  • Entry locks – Install magnetic door locks, door strikes, and deadbolts
  • Programming – Programming is not required
  • Surveillance systems – AVS Technician must be capable of installing and configuring video surveillance systems

  • Analog cameras - Install and configure analog NTSC cameras. Configure recording parameters (frame rate and resolution) and schedules. Configure video pixel masks, sensitivity, and triggers
  • IP cameras – Install and configure IP cameras. Configure camera for static IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway. Configure recording parameters (frame rate and resolution) and schedules. Configure video pixel masks, sensitivity, and triggers
  • DVR - Install and configure analog DVRs. Configure DVR for static IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway.
  • NVR – Install and configure digital DVRs. Configure NVR for static IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway.
  • Viewers – Install and configure computer and smart device interfaces
  • Audio Systems – AVS Technician must be capable of installing and configuring audio systems and sources.

  • Surround sound – Install and configure multi-channel audio system. Configure speaker configuration. Assign I / O types to I / O connections including digital audio, component video, and HDMI video. Configure sound modes. Calibrate surround sound zone using Audyssey. Configure zone 2 for whole home audio
  • Whole home audio – Install and configure single-source multi-zoned and multi-source and multi-zoned audio systems. Install all speaker cable drops, volume controls, and keypads. Install all sources using the appropriate analog line level and digital cables. Install digital to analog converters. Configure zone source selection, control, and volume features.
  • Video Systems – AVS Technician must be capable of installing and configuring video display devices.

  • Flat panel displays – Install and configure flat panel displays. Connect video sources to appropriate input (HDMI, component, or composite).
  • Projectors – Install and configure projectors. Connect video sources to the appropriate input (HDMI, component, or composite). Calculate throw distance. Configure project parameters such as screen size, focus, lens shifting, and keystone. Configure source parameters such as aspect ratio and resolution.
  • Install projector screens – Mount wall and ceiling projector screens. Install IR, dry contact, and serial control interfaces.
  • Video Sources - Configure source parameters such as aspect ratio, resolution, and audio format (bitstream or PCS)
  • Universal Remote Controls

  • IR distribution – Install all IR hubs, amplifiers, emitters, receivers, and blasters.
  • Program remote – Program remote control to manage audio / video controllers and the sources connected to it. Learn IR codes from remote controls. Program sequences. Create favorites list and upload station icons.
  • Video Distribution Systems

  • Video baluns – Install HDMI, component, and composite video baluns over CAT5 & CAT 5 cabling. Set EDID and signal range parameters.
  • Matrix switching – Install A / V multi-source, multi-display, matrix switches. Connect sources and displays to switch. Configure EDID and resolution parameters.
  • Broadcast – Install QAM modulator. Configure modulator broadcast parameters. Connect source to modulator.
  • IR networks. Install IR network to control all A / V components in video distribution chain These include but not limited to flat panel displays, projectors, matrix switches, video settop units, Blu Ray players, and media players
  • Networks

  • Gateway router – Install and configure Internet gateway routers. Configure IP interface se settings such as IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway. Configure port forwarding and DMZ zones to allow outside access to network devices behind the firewall. Configure firewall rules.
  • Local area network – Install Ethernet switches network switches.
  • Window Treatments

  • Motorized shades – Install motorized shading systems. Install mounting brackets. Install power supplies and connect to shade motors. Program remote controls to control multiple shade motors. Set limits
  • Manual shades – Install manual shading systems. Install mounting brackets. Load counter springs.
  • Hybrid shades – Install combination of motorized and manual shades using a linking adapter.
  • Mounts and Furniture

  • Equipment racks – Assemble 19” equipment racks and install A / V components in rack. Install power conditioners and power distribution units
  • Install A / V furniture – Assemble A / V cabinets and furniture. Install A / V components in cabinet. Install cooling fans and vents
  • Additional Requirements :

  • Preferred minimum AAS degree in electrical engineering, computer science, management information systems, or equivalent job experience.
  • Preferred minimum 2 years of experience with audio, video, and security systems.
  • Basic knowledge of the network gateway routers.
  • Good verbal and written communications, time management, and project coordination skills required. Ability to interact courteously with client’s service subscribers.
  • Ability and willingness to travel throughout the client’s deployment market (travel may be required to other client designated areas as agreed to by Digital Homes.)
  • NORMAL WORKING HOURS AND DAYS : 8 : 00 AM to 4 : 30 PM with ½ hour lunch
