What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Forensic Services position at Dakota Children's Advocacy Center?
The Director of Forensic Services will organize, plan and coordinate opportunities for the MDT, case review, and forensic interview and advocate staff. The Director of Forensic Services will be a part of an administrative team that will supervise forensic interview and advocacy staff, as well as recommend and make decisions for the DCAC. The Director of Forensic Services will also conduct forensic interviews using research-based interview protocols and techniques, testify in civil and criminal court, and lead the multidisciplinary team. The Forensic Interviewer will be expected to work closely and effectively with multidisciplinary team members, facilitating and actively participating in multidisciplinary team meetings, and peer review. The Director of Forensic Services will be a part of an administrative team that will recommend and make decisions for the DCAC.
PRIMARY DUTIES (duties consist of, but are not limited to the follow):
1. Conducts developmentally appropriate, forensically sound, and thorough forensic interviews with individuals regarding allegations of abuse.
A. Accurately interprets child’s developmental ability and formulates questions appropriately.
B. Prepares quality report based on the interview and submits to referring agencies according to policy
C. Initiates continued professional growth by staying up to date on the latest abuse issues, research, journals, protocols, and interviewing techniques; maintains professional ethics and participates in department program development
D. Testifies in court
2. Coordinates and leads multi-disciplinary team
A. Actively organize and participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, committees, task forces, and other meetings as required
B. Coordinates the case review process
C .Coordinate and participate in regional and statewide peer review
D. Coordinate and encourage participation in Journal Club, webinars, and other training opportunities for professionals on the team and in the field
E. Educate multi-disciplinary team members on best practices and current research in forensic interviewing
F. Collaborates with the multi-disciplinary team to make recommendations for identified needs with area resources and services
G. Maintains and updates case tracking system
3. Supervise forensic and advocacy staff of the Dakota Children’s Advocacy Center.
A. Provides education, support, and resources for all staff to remain resilient in our work
B. Provide weekly supervision of forensic and advocacy staff including providing support and direction
C. Assists with and provides orientation and training for staff
D. Assists with staff evaluations
E. Addresses noncompliance of policy and procedures with appropriate training or disciplinary measures if necessary
F. Demonstrates ability to work as part of a team and maturity in interpersonal staff relationships
G. Monitor staff statistics and record keeping
H. Oversees intern requirements and expectations for bachelor level students
4. Participate in internal and external committees and team meetings
5. Initiates continued professional growth by staying up to date on the latest abuse issues, best practices, and counseling techniques, participates in regular group and individual supervision, maintains professional ethics, and participates in department program development6.Works with the multi-disciplinary team members in abuse cases
A. Acts as a liaison between the family and the multidisciplinary team to facilitate communication and cooperation
B. Attends and participates in the case review process
C. Provides court testimony when court ordered
7. Provides education, prevention and training to staff, agencies, and communities
8. Performs other tasks as assigned by the by the Executive Director and/or supervisor
JOB QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
1.Master’s Degree in Counseling, Social Work or clinically related field and a current licensure in North Dakota preferred
2.Prefer minimum of five years of experience in working with children, teenagers, young and vulnerable adults, and families/caregivers
3. Prefer forensic interviewing and assessment skills
4.Requires knowledge of sexual abuse and other forms of maltreatment and its impact on victims
5. Requires knowledge of child development stages and a demonstrated ability to utilize this knowledge to communicate with children
6. Requires the ability to communicate with a wide range of children, teenagers, young and vulnerable adults, and families/caregivers
7. Requires the ability to communicate with a wide range of peoples from a variety of cultural backgrounds
8. Requires knowledge of child protection, police and court systems, resource referrals for victims and their families/caregivers, and experience working with diverse professionals
9. Requires good organizational skills, facilitation skills and great teamwork skills
10. Requires a deep commitment to serving the region’s children, teenagers, young and vulnerable adults with the best practices for all programs at the DCAC
11. Must be willing to learn and apply current evidence-based practices and participate in peer review.
12. Experience testifying in civil and criminal proceedings preferred
13. Requires a background check
14.Valid driver’s license required with the ability to travel
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $79,040.00 - $83,200.00 per year
