JOB TITLE: HEAVY EQUIPMENT OPERATOR/LABOR
DEPARTMENT: ROAD DEPARTMENT
- MAJOR DUTIES:
Operates all types of equipment in road maintenance activity. The incumbent may be assigned to a crew under the direction of the Forman or may be assigned to a specialized task which is performed independently. The equipment operator position is distinguished from lower level performance due to the operation of heavy equipment requiring more experience and training. This is a “safety-sensitive” position. A pre-employment drug/alcohol test is mandatory.
- TYPICAL EXAMPLES OF WORK:
- Operates general maintenance equipment such as: trucks (tandem axle), rollers, front end loaders, tractors, motor graders, snow plow, dragline, backhoe, etc.
- Performs preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and assists in servicing and repair.
- Performs manual labor such as patching, sign repair, erecting and taking down snow fence, fencing, bridge and culvert repair, loading and unloading materials.
- Performs related work required.
- QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE JOB:
Education or experience sufficient to enable the individual to perform the duties and meet the knowledge, skills and abilities required. Must possess a valid Nebraska Class A CDL license or be able to acquire one shortly after hired.. Drug and alcohol testing is a part of this position.
- KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED ON THE JOB:
- Knowledge of use, operation, maintenance and minor repair of all maintenance equipment employed.
- Knowledge of the methods and materials used in the type of construction on which the equipment is operated or the work is performed.
- Knowledge of safety practices and methods to expedite and perform work efficiently under quantity production schedules.
- Ability to carry out written or oral instructions without constant personal supervision.
- Ability to do heavy manual work in possibly hazardous locations under varying climatic conditions.
- WORKING CONDITIONS:
Occasional extended heavy lifting, craped positions, elements, seasonal temperature variations. Constant exposure to noise, heat, and grease. Exposure to both stationary and mobile equipment moving parts.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $23.06 - $24.06 per hour
