Individuals within the Business Intelligence (BI) Analyst role participate on a team to produce reports and dashboards supporting business intelligence, reporting, and data analysis needs for the various County business areas. They work with several reporting/BI tools as applicable for the various data sources. They may also be involved with the extract, transfer, and loading of data from operational data sources into the County data warehouse. It is essential that BI Analysts build an understanding of the business at a level of detail that enables them to identify and address critical data related issues. They leverage their team and business partners to ensure data delivered is accurate, congruent and reliable. BI Analysts also educate and train clients to use the data as an analytical tool, displaying the information in many different forms for the purpose of analysis and option exploration.
 
 The BI Analyst participates in facilitating information gathering, structured documentation, and presentation of findings to their team and business partners. They understand how data is turned into information and knowledge and how that knowledge supports and enables key business processes. They must have an in-depth understanding of the business environment and an interest in going beyond the obvious. They must be self-motivated and have strong interpersonal skills.Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Management or Business Intelligence.
 AND 1 year experience in any of the following:
 • Analyzing and reporting on relational databases with industry accepted business intelligence tools.
 • C#, Windows and Web .NET software development experience with desire to move in the direction of business intelligence.
 • Business analysis working directly with business contacts from various business functional areas to deliver scheduled reports and/or data dashboards.
OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

 Project/Work Planning
 • Participates in work stream planning process including inception, technical design, development, testing and delivery of BI solutions including but not limited to reports, dashboards, data mining packages, and reporting views/packages.
 • Participates in project management estimation process.
 • Participates in the development of business cases in the support of process changes and/or IT projects.
 
 Research/Evaluation
 • Uses best practices at the direction of BI Administrator and IT Senior Business Intelligence Analysts.
 • Participates in discussions surrounding selection of tools, frameworks and mechanisms for data mining and reporting.
 • Contributes to discussions regarding BI products/tools, strategies, and direction
 
 Business Requirements & Analysis
 • Works with team to evaluate internal and external customers' needs and abilities in order to provide appropriate solutions.
 • Provides input to business requirements for the design of solutions.
 • Contributes to discussions surrounding new technology opportunities that will have an impact on the enterprise wide BI systems.
 • Explores the data and discovers patterns, meaningful relationships, anomalies and trends.
 • May perform analysis for a wide range of requests using data in different formats and from various platforms.
 • Follows best practices for report development and deployment at the direction of BI Administrator and IT Senior Business Intelligence Analysts.
 
 Testing, Training, Coaching
 • Continuously looks to learn business data to improve ability to deliver quality data with fewer iterations.
 • Analyzes testing/data validation results to ensure the solution meets the needs of the business.
 • Leverages training opportunities to enhance knowledge of BI tools as needed.
 • Coaches business users on the use of developed reports/dashboards.• Experience in the analysis, design, and implementation of data mining solutions.
 • Practical knowledge of relational databases, such as MS SQL or Oracle.
• Knowledge of Relational, Dimensional Data Modeling. 
• Practical knowledge in importing data for use in report software, spreadsheets, graphs, and flow charts.
 • Working knowledge of PC and server operating systems, including Windows OS.
 • Experience in the analysis of databases, software, and standards, as well as data retrieval methodologies.
 • Basic project management skills.
 • Hands-on experience with test cases, test plans, and validation of reports.
 • Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.
• Understanding of ETL transformations and processing of Data.
• Knowledge of Data Warehouse and Operational Data Store concepts and principles.
 • Experience working with clients to prioritize work requests.
• Experience in creation of Technical Design Documents, Data Flow Diagrams, Process layout etc. 
• Experience with core software applications, such as Financial, Tax, and EDMS a plus.
 • Working knowledge of programming languages, such as C#, Web, Windows .NET a plus.

 Work Conditions

 • Some travel between County and State locations.
 • Overtime hours may be required to meet project deadlines.
