Machine Shop Manager
Job Overview
We are seeking a proactive and results-driven Machine Shop Manager to lead our machining operations. This role involves supervising machinists, optimizing production, maintaining equipment, enforcing quality standards, and driving continuous improvement. The ideal candidate will have strong CNC machining background, leadership experience, and a strategic mindset to enhance efficiency and productivity.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Management
Supervise, train, and mentor machinists and operators.
Implement a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
Set clear performance expectations and drive team development.
Production & Operations
Oversee schedule of jobs ensuring they meet production goals and deadlines.
Collaborate with engineering and other departments to streamline workflows.
Oversee CNC operations, ensuring efficiency, accuracy, and quality.
Manage job tracking and workflow efficiency to improve MRP accuracy.
Equipment & Maintenance
Ensure proper operation, calibration, and maintenance of all machines and tools.
Recommend and oversee investments in new equipment to enhance capabilities.
Quality Control
Enforce quality control standards and ensure adherence to specifications.
Implement corrective actions and root cause analysis to address defects and prevent recurrence.
Process Improvement & Cost Management
Identify efficiency improvements and waste reduction opportunities.
Implement lean manufacturing principles to enhance productivity.
Develop and manage the machine shop budget, optimizing costs and resources.
Communication & Collaboration
Maintain clear and concise communication across all levels of the organization.
Qualifications & Skills
Education & Experience
10 years of experience in CNC machining, including setup and programming.
Supervisory experience in a machine shop or manufacturing environment.
Technical Expertise
Strong knowledge of CNC machining (3-axis required).
Proficiency in CAD / CAM software (SolidWorks, GibbsCAM).
Experience with MRP workflow.
Leadership & Problem-Solving
Proven ability to lead, develop, and motivate team.
Strong decision-making, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
Experience with budgeting, cost control, and process optimization.
