What are the responsibilities and job description for the Camp Coordinator position at Dakota State University?
Dakota State University is seeking applicants to fill a Camp Coordinator for Dakota Dreams Summer Camp. Dakota Dreams camp is a week-long career exploration camp for incoming 7th and 8th grade students. This position will be an integral component of the camp and leadership team. This team is responsible for creating a fun and engaging camp program for all and provide staff with the tools and support they need to provide a safe and positive experience for our campers.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Available for the entire duration of camp July 13 – July 17
- Arriving on July 12th for staff orientation
- Must be able to pass a background check.
- Passionate about working with kids.
- Enthusiastic, kind, and outgoing.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience coordinating volunteers, events, or programs is preferred.
- Experience working with elementary/middle school aged students is preferred.
Duties include:
- Facilitates and communicates the prep work with campers, parents and staff prior to camp starting.
- Participate in orientation for camp counselors.
- Day to day point person providing front-line communication regarding the day’s schedule and activities.
- Supervise, evaluate, and assist with execution of camp programs.
- Participate in daily camp debriefing sessions.
- Encourage and maintain motivation amongst counselors and camp participants.
- Assist camp counselors in the performance of their responsibilities.
- Inform counselors of any imperative information that may arise.
- Handle behavior problems calmly and diplomatically according to the rules and collect discipline reports.
- Liaise with DSU Camp team to handle discipline and other issues.
- Assist with camper check-out.
- Coordinates thank you letters to campers following camp.
