JOB TITLE: Classroom Teacher – General Education

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION LEVEL: Bachelor’s degree and endorsements in the areas of teaching assignment.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATION: Certification, alternative certification or licensure: current, valid South Dakota teaching certificate.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Hand-eye, mind-eye coordination. Constant hearing; intermittent speaking, standing, walking and writing. Frequent carrying, keyboarding, and other repetitive motions.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Excellent oral and written communication skills. Skills in human relations, leadership and conflict management. Knowledgeable of teaching techniques that meet the diverse needs of students. Demonstrated skills in the use of technology to enhance student learning.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Usually works indoors in a climate-controlled environment. Some duties may occasionally be performed outdoors or away from school.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Utilize time effectively so that all assigned tasks are completed in a timely manner to ensure effective services.

Essential Functions:
The responsibilities of the classroom teacher align to four distinct categories: planning and preparing instruction; delivering instruction; the classroom environment; and professional responsibilities.
- Regular, timely, in-person attendance.
- Plan and prepare instructional lessons that align to the state standards for the subject/grade level/content assigned.
- Translate lesson plans into learning experiences to best utilize the available time for instruction and engage students with learning.
- Collect, review, and analyze data to monitor student progress.
- Evaluate student academic growth and proficiency through the use of formative and summative assessments, maintain appropriate records, and prepare progress reports.
- Communicate professionally with parents through Parent/Teacher conferences, telephone calls, e-mails, and student planners.
- Identify student needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in helping students solve health, academic, social and emotional challenges.
- Create a clean and organized environment that is conducive to student learning.
- Establish, implement, and communicate consistent routines for effective classroom management, including clear expectations for student behavior.
- Participate in ongoing professional growth and Professional Development activities.
- Complete all supervisory tasks/duties as assigned.
- Support district goals, mission and implement district programs.
- Participate in district meetings and committee assignments.
- Complete all trainings and other compliance requirements as assigned by designated deadline.
- Maintain accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, District policy, and administrative regulation.
EVALUATION: Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with Article 2 of the DVEA Negotiated Agreement and South Dakota Codified Law.
