The Customs Manager is a leading performer who oversees daily brokerage operations including planning and prioritizing in-house brokerage activities. This role ensures customs entries are filed timely and compliantly as mandated by U.S. Customs regulations.
Duties and Responsibilities of the Position :
Support and oversee Import Export Analysts with research and troubleshooting for import shipments, conducting post-entry corrections, reviewing systems, and conducting audits to meet ISA requirements.
Provide operational and reporting support for compliance team initiatives via ACE and / or ad hoc reports through PowerBI.
Handle Customs Broker inquiries, classification requests, and troubleshooting-related issues in support of both internal and external customers.
Oversee trade agreements such as NAFTA, GSP, and similar programs.
Communicate with Customs and other government officials, including the authorization of duty payments to Customs and Border Protection (CBP).
Research import / export regulations relating to the company’s import / export activities.
Maintain procedures to ensure compliance with import laws and regulations. Provide procedural guidance and assist personnel in resolving complex import-related issues.
Identify key opportunities for continuous process improvements, implement solutions to eliminate risk, and identify compliance deficiencies.
Work collaboratively with and provide proactive import / export compliance guidance and training to various internal stakeholders such as International Transportation, Purchasing, Finance, and Warehouse groups.
Partner with in-house attorneys and outside counsel to ensure compliance with applicable laws / regulations or in support of Customs-related litigation matters.
Manage large cross-functional projects or processes.
Coach, review, and delegate work to lower-level professionals.
Perform other duties as needed.
Required Experience and Education :
Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.
6-8 years relevant experience OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
Customs Broker License and / or Certified Customs Specialist (CSS) is preferred.
Knowledge of import / export regulations, procedures, and documentation required.
Competencies :
Requires specialized depth and / or breadth of expertise in own job discipline or field.
Recognized cross-functionally as an expert within one or two subject matter areas.
Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
Able to multitask, prioritize, and manage time effectively.
High level of integrity and discretion in handling sensitive and confidential data.
Proficient in using Microsoft Office Suite products.
Flexible attitude, adaptable to change, team player, and able to handle multiple projects at once.
A high degree of professionalism, judgment, maturity, and resourcefulness in the absence of formalized guidelines and procedures.
Other Pertinent Job Information :
- Temporary indirect reporting relationships may exist while working as a Project lead. May be required to act in a senior role, providing task-related advise and direction to junior team members.
