Interim Controller
We are currently seeking candidates for an Interim Controller opportunity with a highly successful Real Estate Investment Management firm located in Boston, MA. The Interim Controller will manage the firm’s accounting operations (management company and investment accounting) and will oversee all aspects of financial reporting, including monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements. The ideal candidate will have 5-10 years of experience in real estate investment accounting, financial reporting, and team leadership.
This is a 3 month contract opportunity, paying between $80-$90/hour (depending on experience). This role supports a hybrid work-model (onsite 4 days/week and remote 1 day/week).

Responsibilities:
- Oversee all aspects of financial reporting, including monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax regulations, and industry-specific financial standards.
- Lead and manage the accounting team, providing support and training as needed.
- Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger reconciliations.
- Ensure accurate tracking and reporting of investment performance, fund-level accounting, and investor reporting.
- Oversee capital calls, distributions, and waterfall calculations for investment structures.
- Coordinate with asset management and property management teams to ensure accurate financial reporting.
- Monitor cash flow, budgeting, and forecasting processes to ensure financial stability.
- Manage audits, tax filings, and liaise with external auditors and financial institutions.
- Implement and enhance internal controls and financial policies.
- Work closely with senior leadership to provide strategic financial insights and recommendations.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA or MBA preferred).
- 5-10 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Prior experience in real estate investment, property management, or private equity preferred.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, real estate financial structures, and tax compliance.
- Proficiency in Yardi and Microsoft Excel (required).
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across departments.
