Primary Purpose:
Dalhart ISD is seeking a dedicated, highly motivated, and experienced law enforcement
professional to serve as the Chief of Police for the Dalhart Independent School District Police
Department. The Chief of Police will be responsible for overseeing the safety, security, and law
enforcement services within the district, ensuring a safe learning environment for students, staff,
and visitors. This position requires strong leadership, effective communication, and a
commitment to the values of community service and public safety. A willingness to be a team
player and work with the DISD administration and our local law enforcement agencies.
Qualifications:
- Must possess a valid Texas Peace Officer License and be in good standing with the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE).
- Prefer an Intermediate Texas Peace Officer Proficiency Certificate.
- Prefer a School Based Law Enforcement Certificate.
- Minimum of 5 years of law enforcement experience, with at least 1 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
- Strong knowledge of school safety and law enforcement procedures, as well as applicable state and federal laws.
- Proven leadership and management skills, with the ability to build a cohesive, professional team.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with, students, parents, staff, community and other Law Enforcement Agencies.
- Experience in emergency response planning, crisis management, and conflict resolution. Military experience preferred.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
- Valid Texas Driver’s License and a clean driving record.
- Reside within a 15-minute response time DISD facilities.
Responsibilities:

Lead and manage the Dalhart ISD Police Department, ensuring all personnel and
operations are in alignment with district goals, state laws, and best practices. -
Develop and implement policies, procedures, and training programs to ensure effective
law enforcement services, safety protocols, and emergency response plans. -
Oversee the protection of students, staff, and district property, including conducting
safety assessments and recommending improvements to enhance security. -
Collaborate with district administration, local law enforcement agencies, and community
organizations to address safety concerns and maintain a positive public image. -
Develop and manage the department's budget, ensuring responsible allocation of
resources and adherence to financial guidelines. -
Provide leadership, mentorship, and training to all department personnel, promoting
professional development and maintaining a high standard of conduct. -
Respond to critical incidents and emergencies, ensuring swift and effective resolution in
accordance with established procedures. -
Maintain strong relationships with students, parents, staff, and the wider community to
foster a culture of trust and collaboration. -
Ensure compliance with all relevant state and federal laws, regulations, and district
policies. - With the DISD Administration create, monitor and oversee the District’s Emergency Operation Plan annually.
- Lead the DISD Safety and Security Team.
- Assist Members of the Defender Program.
