What are the responsibilities and job description for the Engineering Support Specialist position at Dallas Area Rapid Transit?
General Summary :
Provides engineering and technical support and technical assistance for inspecting revenue vehicles (Buses and Light Rail), Streetcars, Non-Revenue Vehicles (NRV), equipment, parts, and components for the configuration management of the Operations Area of the Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) Engineering Department.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
- Performs duties relating to complex maintenance projects, managing the resources and activities of the tool calibration program, oil analysis, warranty administration, tire leasing contracts, and technical responsibility for DARTs contracts.
- Monitors equipment, parts, and components to ensure compliance with technical specifications, performance standards, and contract compliance. Monitors work orders to ensure work is complete and according to specifications. Recognizes trends to identify problems and recommends action to correct problems. Prepares statistical analysis, interprets results, and demonstrates technical writing skills.
- Promotes established safety, training, technical support, and quality assurance programs.
- Develops or assists with creating Standard Operating Procedures, Standard Practice Bulletins, Standard Campaign Bulletins, Statement of Work, and other documentation for preventative maintenance and quality assurances.
- Prepares various reports for management review, such as statistical analysis, parts trend / usage activities, service call reports, fluid analysis reports, etc.
- Develops or assists with developing contract Scope of Work to purchase new or potential equipment and parts, participating in pre-bid openings, conferences, and meetings.
- Identifies items through analysis for warranty, fleet defects, and system defects for recovery and / or upgrade with coordination through other sections and divisions until a resolution is identified and implemented.
- Conducts technical reviews of certification packets for product acceptance from suppliers.
- Participates in teams to provide quality input for the development, manufacture, procurement, and acceptance of various products.
- Develops, writes, and edits detailed procedures for inspection and / or configuration management processes.
- Develops and monitors quality metrics, levels, and trends supporting department and agency goals.
- Analyzes and makes recommendations regarding product discrepancies.
- Evaluates opportunities for system / equipment defect prevention and implement preventative corrective actions.
- Provides support to engineering during design, RFP evaluations, and qualification processes.
- Performs other related duties as assigned and / or as needed.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required :
Note : An equivalent combination of related education and experience may be substituted for the below stated minimums excluding High School Diploma, GED, Licenses, or Certifications.
Working Conditions :
Works in an environment where there is exposure to dust, noise, or temperature. May be exposed to unpleasant working conditions to include dust, noise, temperature, weather, petroleum products, and chemicals, assuming incumbent is observing all policies and procedures, safety precautions and regulations, and using all protective clothing and devices provided.
