High School Principal (Grades 9-12)

The Dallas Center-Grimes Community School District is a rapidly growing district with 3,600 plus students located just northwest of Iowa's capital city of Des Moines. SUMMARY: Demonstrate effective instructional leadership skills that provide focus on student achievement. Guide the  development of a caring collaborative community that includes all stakeholders in the school. Provide purpose and vision for  the school. Manage the human resources to ensure an orderly work and learning environment.  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to  perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION AND RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE: 

  • Valid Iowa Administrative license
  • Master's Degree in Education related field.
  • Evaluator Approval Certification.
  • Experience as a building administrator required.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in teaching/administration, including a minimum of three years teaching.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS OR CERTIFICATIONS: 

  • PK-12 Principal endorsement (#189) or 5-12 Principal endorsement (#170)
  • Evaluator endorsement
  • Master's Degree in school administration
  • Experience as a building administrator of 3 or more years (preferred)

TECHNICAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES:

In addition, the successful candidate will possess the following abilities in order to meet the essential duties and performance responsibilities for the position assigned: 

  • Excellent interpersonal relations and oral and written communication skills. 

  • Effective collaboration skills and successful experience leading Professional Learning Communities (PLC)

  • Effective use of data to make instructional decisions and evaluate school programs

  • Demonstrated success in promoting best practices, implementing and monitoring curriculum and instruction

  • Demonstrated success in establishing and maintaining a school climate that is conducive to student learning

  • Demonstrated expertise pertaining to district and building initiatives and priorities

  • Basic computer and software skills 

  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge or ability to develop, monitor and evaluate curriculum, discipline plans and  supervision/safety plans. 

  • Demonstrated leadership of student services programs and services  including Special Education, 504, Health Plans, ELL, TAG, and Homeless student supports.

  • Classroom experience necessary. 

  • Advanced skill in dealing with students and staff with diverse needs at various levels. 

  • Proven skills in addressing challenging student behaviors and support for improving students behaviors over time.

  • Demonstrated understanding of Anti-Bullying and Harassment policies and strategies for successfully addressing and remediating bullying and/or harassment issues over time.

  • Demonstrated effectiveness in developing and sustaining a clear vision of education

  • Ability to communicate in a collaborative culture to ensure consistency of student learning

  • Critical thinking and problem solving skills. 

  • Ability to lead others in carrying out the mission, vision, and values of the district. 

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective parent communication over time.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job. 

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks with frequent interruptions. 

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities. 

  • Ability to manage conflict, diffuse and manage volatile and stressful situations. 

  • Ability to promote and follow Board of Education policies, Superintendent’s policies, building, and department  procedures. 

  • Ability to communicate, interact and work effectively and cooperatively with all people, including those from diverse  ethnic and educational backgrounds. Willingness to contribute to cultural diversity for educational enrichment.

  • Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safer work habits, utilize  appropriate safety equipment and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator.
