Position Summary
The CDL Adjunct Instructor is responsible to provide instruction and monitor teaching / learning effectiveness in the area of Commercial Truck Driving. Instructor will provide students with the understanding and skills necessary to function productively in the transportation industry.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Ability to teach the necessary skills for students to earn a State of Texas Class A Commercial License
Must be ethical when evaluating student outcomes
Ability to maintain excellent working relationships with the program staff and participants
Must be knowledgeable, mature, and concerned with the academic progress of participants
Bilingual preferred
Possess basic knowledge of routine maintenance and repairs of Tractor-Trailer units
Must demonstrate enthusiasm
Must be a self-starter and positive role model
Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in written form
Ability to instruct and maintain emotional control under stress

Minimum Knowledge and Experience
High School Diploma or High School Equivalency.
Three (3) years of experience in over the road driving and knowledge of computer hardware and software.
Class A Commercial Driver’s License, including all endorsements (Hazmat, Tanker, Doubles & Triples) and must maintain requirements for Class A Commercial Driver’s License including all endorsements.
Bilingual preferred.
Preferred :
- Associates Degree.
- Previous teaching experience.
- Will be subject to a criminal background check. Some positions may be subject to a fingerprint check.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Provide instruction that will achieve the specific goals and objectives as stated in the syllabus of the assigned courses and create a wholesome, meaningful learning environment in the classroom. Present a positive attitude toward teacher-student learning relationships.
Follow daily lesson plans to ensure quality, consistency, and uniformity of instruction and student conduct.
Keep accurate attendance records and submit required class documents on a timely manner.
Provide students with information about the goals and requirements of each course, the nature of the course content and the methods of evaluation to be employed including required classroom behavior.
Measure sure each student’s progress through the use of written exams or performance assessments essential to mastery of unit objectives. Endorse student skill advancement reports and advise students on their progress covering course material. Provide supplemental materials and / or instruction when necessary.
Be responsible for the efficient and safe operation, care, and appearance of assigned equipment.
Must be able to handle sensitive information with discretion and confidentiality.
Develop and maintain relationships with prospective employers in the truck driving industry so as to keep current with employer demands and facilitate placement for graduating students.
Represent Dallas College at job fairs, informational fairs, orientations, etc. to present information about the truck driving career, when necessary
Work a flexible schedule as determined by instructional activities.
Perform other duties assigned by the Senior Director Workforce or the Associate Vice Chancelor Vice Provost Workforce Education.
