Job Description

Seasonal Maintenance Worker - 3 Seasonal Positions Available

Performs park maintenance and janitorial services to park grounds and facilities; operates and maintains park equipment; and other duties as assigned. Performs diverse tasks associated with maintaining the County’s parks, trails, recreation, cultural, historical, and wildlife management areas. The work schedule will include weekend hours as assigned.

There are three open positions. One position is located at the Kuehn Conservation Area.

Two positions will be based out of the north unit at Forest Park Museum near Perry. One position will primarily work as a maintenance technician on the Raccoon River Valley Trail and High Trestle Trail. The other position will be a general maintenance technician for all other areas within the north unit.

Job Duties

  • Assist visitors with information, and park regulations
  • Open, close and inspect park areas as specified
  • Prepare and post shelters for reservations
  • Park maintenance and janitorial services to park grounds and facilities
  • Operate and maintain maintenance equipment
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE


  • Must be 18 years old and have a current Iowa driver's license
  • Background checks are required
  • Basic knowledge of equipment, procedures and tasks associated with maintenance of county parks and recreation areas

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; and taste or smell
  • The employee is occasionally required to sit
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, outside weather conditions, and vibration
  • The employee is frequently exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme heat; and risk of electrical shock
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but loud when using mechanical equipment.
