Responsibilities
Education, Experience and Training:
Education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a behavioral or social sciences field, or in a job related field of study. One (1) year of work related experience.
Special Requirements/Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Skilled in the use of standard software applications. Ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing and establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, departments and the general public. Must possess a valid Texas Driver License, with a good driving record.
Physical/Environmental Requirements
Standard office environment. Ability to travel to various work site locations.

Responsibilities
- Interviews and provides counseling to Public Defender clients regarding social services involving mental health and criminal justice and conducts assessments of needs.
- Facilitates housing referrals/placement for mentally ill clients to be presented as evidence in support of release at Bail Review and Mental Health Personal Bond hearings.
- Facilitates the release of clients to community mental health and other social service providers. Creates service packages by filling in gaps that do not fully address all client’s needs.
- Engages with service providers in the community, strengthening existing partnerships and making connections with new partners to develop resources for Public Defender clients, with a special emphasis on supporting housing needs.
- Maintains and reports statistical data as directed by the Social Worker Supervisor.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
