What are the responsibilities and job description for the Parent Support Specialist (Grades: EC-5) position at Dallas Independent School District?
The Parent Support Specialist will serve as one of the main resources for families in the school community providing information about educational opportunities, engagement activities and linking parents and families to needed community resources. The person serving in this role will have in-depth
knowledge about the opportunities offered through the school to include after-school programs and student activity opportunities so that they can inform parents and families of enhancement and extension opportunities. Coordination of parent education programs is also critical to build understanding of school
and community current topics but to also provide parents with academic information and activities to do at home. The Parent Support Specialist will work to increase the parent and family engagement at the campus as well as serve as the liaison to enhance the academic success of students.
- Provide information to parents that will assist with reinforcement or extension ideas on learning activities in a variety of group settings.
- Complete home visits and maintain all documentation of home visits conducted. –Home instructors.
- Know community resources and refer families to resources or access community resources for the families in the school community.
- Serve as a communication link between families and school staff as needed.
- Coordinate a series of parent education activities and programs that provide information, resources, and support to families in the school community.
- In depth knowledge of programs and activity opportunities offered through the school that can be messaged and communicated to students and families.
- Disseminate approved materials and information pertaining to community activities, as well as school programs and information at various venues (such as Fam Jams) that are available.
- Develop a plan with specific activities and engagement functions to increase parental engagement.
- Serve as the liaison to organize the recruitment, processing and training of campus volunteers.
- Attend all required professional learning sessions directly related to the position.
All federally funded incumbents of this position must comply with time and effort reporting requirements through personnel activity reports or periodic certification, as appropriate.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Travel throughout the district is integral to this job. A remote working environment /alternate work arrangement is not an option for campus-based employees/campus-based positions because regular and punctual attendance at the worksite and performing all duties at the worksite are essential job duties for all campus-based personnel.
- Accredited High School Diploma or equivalent (U.S.A. equivalency).
