Basketball Operations Communication Intern
POSITION SUMMARY: The Dallas Mavericks are seeking a Basketball Communications Seasonal Intern to assist our Public Relations (PR) team throughout the 2024-25 season. This role provides a unique opportunity to contribute to the team by supporting an active PR department with essential daily operations. The position reports directly to the VP of Basketball Communications.
LENGTH OF INTERNSHIP:
- June 2 – July 31, 2025. (Duration may change because of performance and/or business needs.)
- Must be able to work 29 hours per week (3-4 day/wk.), which may include nights and weekends as needed and working games.
JOB FUNCTION:
- Update and maintain statistical information related to the team, in coordination with other team members.
- Compile information of interest for season-related publications and communications, serving as a co-author under the guidance of team members.
- Monitor and track team-related media coverage and incoming media requests.
- Assist in the planning and coordination of player-related press conferences and media availabilities, under supervision.
- Help manage media-related credentialing matters.
- Co-author press releases regarding trades, roster moves, injury reports, and other special team announcements.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
To perform this role successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job function as well as the following:
- Display proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Photoshop, InDesign, and Adobe Acrobat.
- Possess strong writing skills, including editing and proofreading.
- Demonstrate ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
- Be self-directed, with the ability to work independently without supervision.
- Remain comfortable while interfacing with executives, coaching staff, and players.
- Display Organization and capability of working effectively in a demanding environment.
- Possess excellent project management and time management skills.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Must be a current college Sophomore, Junior, or Senior Majoring in Communications, Public Relations, or related field
- If applying for college credit you must be able to provide proof that credit will be earned toward your course of study (from school/registrar).
