Classification : Full Time, Exempt

Salary : $45,000 - $60,000, dependent on position level

Scope of Position :

The Assistant / Associate / Librarian provides research and reference assistance to library patrons, which includes museum staff and visitors, and performs collection management activities. This role focuses on day-to-day library functions, public services, and facilitating access to library resources.

Essential Functions :

REFERENCE & RESEARCH SERVICES

  • Provide reference services and research support to the public and museum staff, including regular shifts at the reference desk
  • Coordinate research appointments; supervise and maintain library Reading Room
  • Provide patron instruction on library resources, policies, and procedures
  • Circulate materials within established guidelines; manage user accounts and coordinate transfer and return of library materials
  • Promote library collections and resources
  • Assist with interlibrary loan as needed
  • COLLECTION MAINTENANCE

  • Manage library stacks and vertical files, including shelving, shelf-reading, shifting, and inventory control projects; collaborate with Technical Services to ensure accuracy of collection holdings and item locations in the library system
  • Identify, communicate, and collaborate with the Director of the Library and Archives on solutions for collection storage needs
  • Support preservation of the collection by promoting safe-handling practices, identifying materials with condition concerns, and performing minor repairs on circulating items
  • Collaborate with Director of Library and Archives to develop and execute collection-based assessments and projects
  • ACQUISITIONS

  • Process materials donated or transferred to the library, including documentation and disposition
  • Manage serials and research database subscriptions
  • Recommend new materials for purchase
  • Assist with research materials ordering and receiving
  • OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain library statistics and submit monthly activity reports
  • Maintain documentation of current, local practices and procedures
  • Assist with supervision and training of library interns and volunteers
  • Others duties as assigned
  • Requirements

    Education, Experience, and Certifications :

  • Master's degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited program.
  • Requirements for Librarian levels :
  • Assistant level : Minimum 1 year experience with public services and collection management in a library setting.

    Associate level : Minimum 3 years' experience with public services and collection management in a library setting. Educational training in Art History and / or art museum experience.

    Librarian level : 5 years' experience with library public services and collection management in the subject areas of art or art history, as well as supervision of professional staff.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to respectfully engage with colleagues and patrons
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills; ability to work independently and systematically with close attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to problem solve, learn new systems, or develop new processes for productive results
  • Demonstrated experience with library collection maintenance activities, including shelving in Library of Congress and Dewey Decimal classification systems
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office365 applications : Outlook, SharePoint, Excel, Word.
  • Ability to sit for long periods of time, capacity to bend or reach for materials on shelves, push a book truck, lift 30 lbs.
  • Preferred Skills

  • Educational training in Art History and / or art museum experience
  • Experience with object-based and art history research methods and related bibliographic tools
  • Understanding of issues related to electronic resources including procurement, implementation, access, and promotion
  • Familiarity with OCLC WorldShare and Ex Libris Voyager
  • Proficiency with library service platforms
  • Knowledge of standard book repair techniques for library materials
  • Experience with special collections materials
  • Experience with project management
