Scope of the Position:
The Gallery Guide will work under the direct supervision of the Gallery Attendant Supervisor to provide an exemplary experience for visitors by warmly greeting them and enhancing their time in the Yayoi Kusama: For the Eternal Love of Pumpkins exhibition at the Dallas Museum of Art. This role will provide visitors with a concise and articulate orientation to exhibition guidelines prior to entry. The guide will proactively safeguard the artwork and advise the public to not touch or damage the artwork in any way.
Schedule:
Due to varying demand, the Gallery Guides will be expected to work different hours every week, based on the needs of the department and of the DMA. The Gallery Guide working hours are based on the exhibition’s hours and may include days, evenings, and nights. Availability to work weekends is preferred, as well as flexibility for extended hours outside of the museum’s regular hours of operation including “Late Night” events, other special events, and holidays.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Greet and assist visitors with a high level of customer service, providing a welcoming and friendly environment for the visitors to enjoy their experience, while ensuring visitors are properly oriented for entry into the exhibition.
- Clearly communicate exhibition guidelines and regular access to the exhibition, including ensuring that bags are left outside the exhibition.
- Work with various departments including, but not limited to, Education, Curatorial, Collections, Visitor Services, Membership and Experiences to ensure appropriate orientation messaging for visitors.
- Report all suspicious conditions or persons, providing descriptions of potential violators of the Museum’s policies, report accidents, injuries and hazardous conditions to the GA supervisor.
- Administer DMA guidelines and emergency procedures, effectively assisting with difficult situations and emergency response, including evacuations and shelter-in-place events.
- Inspect art and facility conditions, annotating concerns and maintenance issues on the Opening/Closing checklist.
- Contact the GA supervisor immediately to report any activity that could potentially result in art damage.
- Ensure the safety and positive experience of our visitors by remaining alert and watchful to deter acts of vandalism, theft, or negligence.
- Provide information to visitors about the DMA Members programs, Museum policies, events, services, and the community extending through the Dallas Arts District.
- Diplomatically trat the public with courtesy and respect while upholding Museum policies.
- Work with a diverse group of people, including all levels of the executive, management, and frontline teams.

- Ability to learn Museum policies and calmly respond to emergency procedures.
- Ability to proactively interact with visitors and provide guidance on DMA policies and guidelines.
- Ability to conduct details inspections in accordance with DMA procedures.
- Ability to fill out forms accurately and completely.
- Strong verbal communication and customer service skills.
- Professional and business-like in appearance and demeanor.
- Ability to work within a patrol area or post and stand for long periods of time.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, around event times that change.
- Ability to interact and communicate professionally, courteously and effectively with a wide range of DMA Members, visitors, volunteers, staff and contractors.
- Availability to work weekends preferred.
Education, Experience, and Certification:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Experience in a customer/visitor service environment required.
- Experience demonstrating exceptional verbal communication and service skills.
- Prior experience in a museum environment or educator role is a plus.
- Applicants with, or currently pursuing, an art-related degree or with general experience in museum-related education a plus.
- Spanish-speaking skills is a plus.
