Description
Purpose: The position of part-time substitute childcare teacher consists of instructing children (6 weeks - 5 years of age) in activities designed to promote social, emotional, physical, and intellectual growth and development. You may be asked to substitute in any of the four classrooms: Infant Room, Younger Toddler Room, Older Toddler Room, Preschool Room.
Qualifications
Essential Job Duties:
• Establish and enforce rules of behavior for children in their classrooms
• Supervision of group of children at all times while remaining in ratio
• Provide basic needs for children
• Supervision of assigned group of children at all times
• Ability to follow a lesson plan or create a simple lesson plan as needed
• Provide tools and resources for children to use and explore during learning and play activities
• Adapt teaching methods and materials to meet the needs and learning styles of children
• Develop and maintain positive relationships with children and staff
• Track children’s progress throughout the day and communicate with parents via Brightwheel app
• Maintain a clean and tidy classroom
• Encourage children to interact with each other to develop social skills
• Always provide appropriate supervision for children
• Facilitate various activities for children including songs, games and storytelling
• Adhere to health/safety and sanitation procedures
• Fill out incident reports in a timely fashion and report to childcare director
• Maintain confidentiality of children and families in the center
• Be flexible with hours, may be subject to change. May work up to 29 hours a week.
Qualifications:

Must be able to pass at drug test and submit to random drug screenings upon employment

Must be 18 years of age
-
Must be at least a Step 6 on the Oregon Registry Online (ORO)
-
Must be enrolled in the Central Background Registry and be able to provide R-number
-
Ability to develop activities that are developmentally appropriate and educational for young children
-
Ability to select the appropriate teaching method and adapt to children’s learning styles
-
Proficient active listening skills to understand and adapt to the various needs of children and parents
-
Able to speak to children at their level and in a calm tone
-
Patience and compassion suitable for working with young children
-
Meet initial /annual training requirements
-
Completed 20 semester credits, or 30 quarter credits from a college or university in Early Childhood Education or Child Development OR a Step 8 in the Oregon Registry OR at least 1-year qualifying teaching experience in a certified center

Alternatively have a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education or Special Education, OR a one-year state or nationally recognized credential related to preschool age care

Must have food handlers (can be acquired upon employment)

Must have child and infant first aid / CPR certification (can be acquired upon employment)

Must complete the CCLD Introduction to Child Care Health and Safety training as required under OAR 414-305-0370(2), Orientation and Initial Training

Must have completed a minimum of 2 hours of training on recognizing and reporting child abuse and neglect that is specific to Oregon law, within 30 days of employment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS:
Must be able to move throughout the building and grounds as needed throughout the day; must be able to lift up to 25 lbs. Good visual and hearing acuity required; good verbal communication skills are required. Must be able to speak English effectively. May be exposed to communicable diseases, and blood and body fluids that may contain HIV and/or HBV. May be exposed to cleaning chemicals and offensive odors.
