The Dallas Symphony Association has an exciting opportunity for a Manager of Volunteer Services. The Manager of Volunteer Services acts as one of the primary liaisons between the Dallas Symphony Orchestra (DSO) and three key volunteer auxiliary organizations: the Dallas Symphony Orchestra League (DSOL), the Young Professionals (YP), and the Guild. While each organization has its unique mission, they collectively support the fundraising efforts of the DSO. This position plays a critical role in overseeing volunteer and musician interactions, managing volunteer finances, attending volunteer events, and coordinating volunteer involvement in events, programs, and youth concerts. This position offers a dynamic opportunity to contribute to the success of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra’s volunteer network and support its mission of excellence in music and community engagement.
Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
- Manage the members, Board of Directors, and calendar of events for DSOL, Young Professionals and the Guild.
- Assume responsibility for a majority of the financial and administrative needs for Volunteer Services to allow the Director of Events & Volunteer Services to handle increasing management responsibilities.
- Oversee the engagement of over 1,000 direct service volunteers, supporting their participation in various fundraising, service, and educational initiatives throughout the year, and attend meetings and events with volunteers, vendors, etc. as required and/or requested.
- Manage the Young Professionals, Guild and League Members involvement with DSO special events, festivals, youth concerts, and other initiatives, and manage musician and guest artist requests by serving as a liaison between Events & Volunteer Services, and the DSO Artistic department.
- Manage and track funds/expenses of volunteers, including preparing monthly finance reports for Volunteer Treasurers and Committee Treasurers; consolidating reports with Tessitura and Finance; coordinating accounts receivable and accounts payable (AR/AP) tasks related to volunteer invoices, ensuring timely and accurate processing of payments received by the DSA on behalf of volunteers; monthly budgets review/management; and projecting annual forecasting of revenue contributions.
- Manage and monitor all Volunteer marketing submissions for the program book, lobby recognition on digital monitors, and other Volunteer projects.
- Oversee websites, social media, email (MailChimp), and text communications (Give Smart) for all volunteer groups, with a concentration on the DSOL & YP groups.
- Assist analytics team in entry and processing of volunteer-generated/related charges in Tessitura.
- Research new projects as required and report findings to Director of Events & Volunteer Services and/or volunteers.
The successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree and three to five years of experience in volunteer management or a related field. This position requires someone who is a self-starter with a strong ability to work independently as well as part of a group. Other requirements include:
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interface and interact with all levels within and outside the organization (staff, musicians, board members, donors, patrons, volunteers, and the general public) with tact, diplomacy, and confidentiality under sometimes complex circumstances
- Social media, web site content, and other media content experience (Facebook, Twitter, blog, Wild Apricot, Give Smart) and the ability and willingness to learn new software/website programs quickly to provide adequate support to volunteers using those programs
- Knowledge of CRMs, (Tessitura experience preferred)

- Knowledge of classical music or musical background preferred but not required.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends at volunteer events and DSO concerts as required.
- Fundraising event experience preferred.
