Job Summary
This position is responsible for safely operating a mobile repair vehicle for the routine maintenance, diagnostics, and repair of all trailers and related equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Aptitude in using various hand tools, power tools, and precision measurement tools (e.g., calipers)
- Maintains, diagnoses, and repairs a variety of equipment including; electrical systems, air systems
- Execute required procedures for preventative maintenance inspections
- Perform inspections required by the company
- Perform basic troubleshooting with electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems
- Read and follow the repair manual
- Perform repairs as listed in manuals
- Operate and maintain power equipment
- Order parts as necessary for equipment with prior approval
- Install and/or replace new or reconditioned repair parts
- Basic testing of equipment for proper operation
- Complete proper paperwork as assigned
- May be required to assist other maintenance employees
- Problem solve and document an action plan for all repairs and follow checklists and protocols while conducting repairs
- Ensure a safe, organized, and tidy workspace, including regularly cleaning and maintaining tools and equipment
- Cleaning and upkeep of the shop is necessary, which will include sweeping, cleaning, and trash removal
- Follow all health and safety rules and guidelines, as well as common sense safety practices
- Ability to work independently, as well as support coworkers, able to work as part of team and work well with co-workers
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Possess a valid driver's license and a clear Motor Vehicle Report to our Driver Fleet Policy
- Must be insurable according DTR's insurance company's requirements (acceptable driving record, age min/max requirements)
- Must be able to read and write in English, in order to follow local, state, and federal driving laws and signs and as required for documentation of diagnosis and solutions
- ASC Certifications and/or Vocational/ Trade-School certification preferred but not required
- 1-3 years of mechanical or equivalent experience (Denoted below*)
*Class A Mechanic = 5 yrs. experience. *Class B Mechanic = 3-5 yrs. experience. *Class C Mechanic = 1-3 yrs. experience.
- Able to pass pre-employment knowledge/skill test to determine probability of job success and mechanical classification
- Proven mechanical acuity and basic math skills
- Must be able to read and write in English, as required for documentation of diagnosis and solutions
- Must have own tools plus Safety Glasses, Steel-toed shoes, and Hearing Protection
- Able to pass a 10-year background check
Work Environment
Work is performed in a shop; both indoors and outdoors. Activities occur inside and outside and are subject to work environments that are not climate controlled, weather, and hot/cold temperature changes, dirt, dust, soot and possibly mold, loud noise, and ladders to use for high heights. Potential hazards such as moving vehicles, proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, high places, high heat, and exposure to chemicals, atmospheric conditions (e.g. fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases), or poor ventilation, or a workspace may be exposed to smoke residue, mold and mildew, contaminated water, or other unsanitary conditions as well as being in closed quarters/confined spaces (e.g. crawl spaces, small, enclosed rooms, attics, etc.)
