Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled Industrial Automation Systems Engineer to join our power generation technology operations team serving 2.4 million electric customers across the greater Las Vegas region. The ideal candidate will manage critical technology infrastructure across 9 power generation facilities, ensuring optimal performance of our industrial automation systems.
This role requires daily onsite presence at various power generation facilities depending on operational needs and scheduled maintenance requirements. The successful candidate will be responsible for the seamless integration, maintenance, and security of essential automation technology that keeps our power generation capabilities running efficiently.
Core Responsibilities
Oversee and maintain computer networking, server management, and operating systems to ensure continuous and reliable operations across multiple power generation facilities
Perform comprehensive system assessments and diagnostics on automation systems from industry-leading vendors including ABB, GE Automation, Emerson Ovation, Emerson EDS, Aveva PI and PI Vision, Rosemont Solutions, Siemens, and Rockwell
Collaborate with operations and technical staff on troubleshooting and engineering solutions to maintain seamless integration of industrial automation systems
Manage motor control circuits, power supplies, PLCs, and other essential automation components
Handle installation and configuration of system hardware and software, including deployment process oversight and management of upgrades and updates
Implement robust information security measures including antivirus management, whitelisting, blacklisting, and configuration management
Ensure compliance with corporate cybersecurity standards and safeguard critical infrastructure against potential threats and vulnerabilities
Required Qualifications
Strong experience with VMWare vSphere ecosystem, including vSAN, ESXi, and vCenter
Demonstrated understanding of networking fundamentals including switches, firewalls, routers, and network ports (TCP, UDP)
Proven experience in server management (both hardware and software)
Proficiency in operating systems deployment, maintenance, upgrades, and patching
Experience implementing and supporting software patching, antivirus management, whitelisting, blacklisting, and configuration management
Familiarity with network and system monitoring, security event monitoring, and incident response
Ability to travel between multiple power generation facilities in the greater Las Vegas area on a daily basis
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work effectively in time-sensitive situations
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Dell Servers
Hyper-V experience
Scripting capabilities with PowerShell or Python
Previous experience in power generation or utility environments
Familiarity with NERC CIP compliance requirements
Experience with industrial control systems in critical infrastructure
Physical Requirements
Ability to work in various power plant environments, which may include exposure to noise, heat, and industrial equipment
Capability to lift up to 30 pounds occasionally
Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to travel between multiple facilities
