Job Purpose:
The Exceptional Student Services (ESS) Teacher will design and implement specially designed content for a classroom of students. Services may be provided in an inclusive setting with a general education co-teacher and/or in a separate class model service for a classroom of students. The ESS Teacher will provide IEP-driven supports and services for students, manage an IEP caseload, and collaborate with professionals to ensure students’ IEPs and standards-based instruction needs are met.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Specially designs instruction in a content area, in collaboration with content and/or grade level colleagues.
- Directs classroom activities with a general education co-teacher, paraprofessional, or alone to support IEP goal mastery and each student’s grade level standards to provide progress toward graduation.
- Collaborates with administrators, teachers, therapists, support staff, and parents to support student progress.
- Complies with IDEA, Georgia State Special Education Rules, and Dalton Public Schools local procedures pertaining to timelines, procedures, and guidelines for IEP development.
- Facilitates IEP meetings at the direction of the building administrator.
- Completes special education documentation according to Dalton Public Schools local procedures.
- Pursues professional learning opportunities to build professional expertise.
- Maintains student records, including special education records, confidential records, records of services provided, and behavioral data.
- Pursues new developments in areas pertaining to special education techniques, or as directed by a supervisor.
- Participates in professional organizations, professional learning opportunities, and continually seeks to enhance professional knowledge and skills.
Qualifications:
To be qualified for this position the employee must possess certification in the following:
- Special Education- General Curriculum Consultative (P-12) Certification
Work Calendar:
This position works 190 days.
