The Used Car Technician, functions as an experienced technician who can perform diagnoses and repairs of most vehicle components with little supervision required, and who has previously worked as a C-Class general service technician.
Pay: $32.00 - $36.00 / hour

Dalton Motors services Dalton Toyota National City and Dalton, Dalton Hyundai and Subaru National City, and is located less than 20 minutes from most areas of San Diego. Founded in Guadalajara in 1945, Dalton Motors is a family owned and operated business with over 30 dealerships serving major manufacturers including Toyota and others. They are continuing the legacy of Frank Motors, an automotive and community presence since 1965. Dalton Motors has a large and well stocked parts department and a Service Development Center (SDC) dedicated to setting and reminding customers of their service appointments. We have extremely knowledgeable and experienced service advisors who are highly productive and used to working in a fast-paced, customer friendly environment. We have ongoing training for our staff, including technician and service advisor/consultant training from the manufacturer, new product on-line training, and job specific training by our in-house trainer. Our service and parts areas run very smoothly in large part due to our solid processes and trained, skilled staff, many of whom have been at our stores for twenty years or more.
Some of What You’ll do:
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Performs work as outlined on repair order with efficiency and accuracy, in accordance with dealership and factory standards.
- Diagnoses cause of most malfunctions and performs repair.
- Communicates with parts department to obtain needed parts.
- Saves and tags parts of the job if under warranty or if requested by the customer.
- Examines assigned vehicle to determine if further safety or service work is required or recommended.
- Communicates with service advisor immediately if additional work is needed, if work outlined is not needed, or if repairs cannot be completed within the promised time.
- Documents all work performed and recommended on the repair order.
- Road tests vehicles when required or refers to the test technician.
- Participates in manufacturer-sponsored training programs, schools, and events.
- Keeps abreast of manufacturer technical bulletins.
- Supervises work of any apprentice technicians as assigned.
- Reports machinery defects or malfunctions to supervisor.
- Ensures that customers' cars are kept clean. Notifies service advisor immediately of anything that has happened to change the appearance or condition of the vehicle.
- Keeps shop area neat and clean.
- Maintains and is accountable for all dealership-owned tools and manuals. Returns them to the proper place and in the same condition as when they were received.
- Understands, keeps abreast of and complies with federal, state and local regulations, such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA Right-to-Know etc.
- Operates all tools and equipment in a safe manner.
- Reports any safety issues immediately to management.
- Performs other duties as assigned by ownership, upper management and/or immediate supervisor.
Accountabilities:
- Quality repairs on vehicles and vehicles fixed right the first time
- Accurate documentation of work
- Keep customer and company vehicles damage free while in dealership’s care
- Report all damages to vehicles and equipment, accidents, injuries, and hazards to Service Manager immediately
- Secure handling of customers vehicle’s keys
- Maintain excellent department, manufacturer, customer relations
- Maintain a clean and safe work area
- Drive safely, obey traffic and vehicle code laws
What we are looking for:
- Must have 3 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- ASE Certifications preferred
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills; and ability to work in team environment
- Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively
- Must have the ability to interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and repair manuals
- Must have the ability to communicate effectively to customers, other managers, technicians, employees, factory technical specialists, or groups
- Must have the ability to write routine reports and correspondence
- Must be able to perform basic mathematical functions
- Must have the ability to define and solve problems
- Must maintain accurate documentation
- Possess the energy and drive to accomplish goals, meet deadlines and find solutions.
- Must have a valid driver’s license
- Must be available to work weekends as needed
