Assistant Nurse Manager - Operating Room
POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsibilities include but are not limited to: supervision of personnel and coordination of the operational activities of a
specific nursing unit, basing decision-making on patient acuity, staff skills mix, and unit census for a 12-hour work shift.
Directs the clinical nursing care for patients on the assigned nursing unit. Demonstrates effective leadership skills, directing
and participating with the nursing care team, in the delivery of quality nursing care in a safe environment. Must respond to
nursing personnel requests for actual patient care assistance, and intervene as expert clinician, when necessary, to ensure
quality patient outcomes and experience. Required to conduct board rounds on each patient to ensure that patient and family
needs are met. Manages performance of unit personnel. Under the direction of the Department Director and Hospital
Supervisor, provides administrative and clinical support in the provision of quality patient care on the unit and shares in the
financial management of the unit. Must maintain clinical competenies in unit, providing direct patient care when necessary.
Must be able to perform jobs in all patient care and operational areas subject to reasonable accommodations, also be able to
employ all mandatory safety devices and procedures. Must participate in the Respiratory Protection Program, which may
include the wearing of a respirator. This is a non-union position. See Essential Job Functions.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Education required qualifying for license as a registered nurse.
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or allied health field preferred. If not possessed, required to initiate course of study towards degree
within 1 year of hire or transfer and complete degree within 5 years of hire or transfer. All staff currently in this position must enroll
in course of study for Bachelor’s degree within 1 year and obtain it within 5 years of signing this job description.
Experience:
One year in a charge/relief charge position preferred.
Minimum of two years relevant clinical experience in acute care facility.
Licenses/Certificates:
Current California Registered Nurse License
Current BLS Certification through AHA
National certification in specialty area preferred. Required within 3 years of hire or transfer. All staff currently in this position must
obtain certification within 3 years of signing this job description.
Additional Skills:
Basic knowledge of Windows operating system and Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint )
Must be able to type and use a computer keyboard.
Must be able to open and respond to emails.

vendors

Additional Unit Specific Certification Requirements:

Current ACLS Certification (at hire/transfer)
Current PALS (at hire/transfer)
Current Arrhythmia recognition with competency verified by exam annually
Requirements:
Sexual Harassment training must be completed on hire, at 6 months of hire or promotion, and every year thereafter.
Additional Requirement - Dress Code:
Scrubs, (no all red or all black), and appropriate shoes for clinical position (closed toe with heel strap or enclosed heel)
Must present in attire that communicates professionalism (clean, pressed, color-coordinated, conservative in cut and fit).
Lab coat or scrub jackets only may be worn as outer layer. No street jackets, sweaters, or coats worn in clinical areas.
Name badge must be worn above waist level at all times.
