Job Summary
The Patient Care Technician (PCT) plays a vital role in supporting quality patient care by assisting with both clinical and non-clinical tasks. Working under the supervision of nursing staff, the PCT helps with patient daily living activities, monitors vital signs, and performs basic technical procedures to ensure patient comfort and safety.
Essential Functions
- Direct Patient Care:
- Assist patients with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and feeding.
- Safely transfer and position patients to prevent injuries.
- Clinical Support:
- Measure and record vital signs (temperature, blood pressure, pulse, respirations) and report any significant changes to the nursing team.
- Perform basic technical tasks, including EKG monitoring, phlebotomy, and specimen collection as required.
- Patient Environment & Documentation:
- Maintain a clean and safe patient environment by following infection control and safety protocols.
- Document patient information and care activities accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Team Collaboration:
- Communicate effectively with healthcare team members to support coordinated patient care.
- Assist with additional duties as assigned by supervisors or clinical staff.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of a state-approved Patient Care Technician training program or relevant clinical training.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Previous experience in a healthcare setting is preferred.
- Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
