Founded in 1987, Damien Center is Indiana's oldest and largest AIDS service organization (ASO) and serves more than 8,000 individuals living with or at risk for HIV through a comprehensive, innovative approach to care and prevention. Our purpose is to be a trusted partner in providing services, education and advocacy for all people living with or at risk for HIV and any person seeking a safe and welcoming home for care. Our services include care coordination, clinical and pharmacy services, mental health, housing, and nutrition.

 

Position Summary:

The Director of Marketing and Communications oversees Damien Center's promotion, branding, and advertising efforts to drive an increase in clients and patients, fundraising goals, community and volunteer engagement, and brand awareness across Indiana. The Director will develop an annual organizational marketing plan, oversee promotional campaigns, track organizational marketing projects, and measure and report the return of investment of various campaigns. The Director will develop multifaceted internal and external communications strategies, including email, website, social media platforms, digital and print advertising, SMS/texting, search engine optimization (SEO), and other strategies as determined. The Director will possess excellent grammar, writing, and editing skills.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Leads the process in developing, revising, and promoting Damien Center's brand and key messages that focus on HIV disease and LGBTQ services and needs, aligning with Damien Center's mission and strategic plan.
  • Supervise marketing staff, interns, and relationships with external venders and contractors.
  • Develops and implements an annual marketing plan with strategies, tactics, timelines, and success measures.
  • Implements strategies designed to create community awareness and increase clients and patients in Damien Center services.
  • Creates regular reports that show key performance indicators and metrics of success for social media, website, media relations, and other marketing and awareness strategies.
  • Develops a detailed marketing budget in collaboration with department heads, finance, and grant management teams, regularly providing spending and status updates to organization leadership.
  • Maintains a working knowledge about HIV disease process and its treatment, current social needs facing the LGBTQ community, BIPOC communities, 340B advocacy strategies, and Damien Center programs including harm reduction, housing, medical care, and other programs.
  • Serves as the primary contact with our external Public Relations contracted agency, partnering to develop a robust media relations strategy, press opportunities, and advocacy engagement.
  • Plans and oversees logistical implementation of advertising, promotional campaigns, and marketing across a multimedia platform, including print and digital media.
  • Collaborates directly with the fundraising team to develop promotional strategies and materials that increase donations and event attendance.
  • Regularly re-evaluates marketing and communications strategies, stays abreast of developments in relevant fields, and refines tactics and policies appropriately.
  • Oversees creative direction and supervises design and production of content for all departments with a focus on special event materials, program brochures, and materials highlighting the impact of our work.
  • Oversees the graphic design needs of the agency, using internal resources and contracting with external designers as needed.
  • Coordinates the selection of vendors for promotional items and ensures sustainable selection and ordering of items
  • Manages the creation and distribution of monthly communications to donors, volunteers, and clients.
  • Ensures all departments have the tools to seamlessly represent our brand, proactively seeking to improve external communication and brand representation of all kinds, including but not limited to developing talking points, flyers, social media campaigns, etc.
  • Drafts, revises, and posts media communications in response to emerging and crisis issues of interest in collaboration with the President & CEO.
  • Manages a system for all staff to submit marketing requests, tracks the progress of these projects, and communicates about each project status
  • Identifies opportunities for partnerships and cooperation with outside organizations and influencers that positively increase brand visibility and awareness.
  • Oversees the management of social media channels (LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, etc.) to grow engagement
  • Ensures that public-facing communications are well-written and error free, including website, program materials, advertisements, and other items.
  • Maintains inventory of all Damien Center marketing and promotional materials, updates materials as needed and assures brand adherence across the agency.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Education and/or Experience

 

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in communications, marketing, or a related field required. Minimum 5 years' experience in marketing strategy and communications required. Experience with Graphic Design (Print/Web), SEO, website management, and social media marketing required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Possess superior organizational and administrative skills. Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities. Excellent computer skills in a Microsoft Windows environment. Ability to work independently and achieve high standards of productivity, achieving deadlines and with superior product results. Strong calendaring, organizational, and document management skills required. Proactive approach to solving problems and communicating to leadership. Knowledge of office management systems, procedures, and office equipment required. Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize work.
