What are the responsibilities and job description for the Pottery Wheel Throwing Assistant (Ceramics) position at Dan Pearce Creative, LLC?
THE JOB:
I am looking for three people who can work 20-40 hours per week with me and my assistant in our pottery studio for a couple of months at least.
- The job will include throwing vessels on the wheel and helping us get pottery collections through to completion.
- We are looking to stockpile thousands of small thrown pots and vases that we can pull as bisque ware for future pottery releases.
WHO I AM:
My name is Dan Pearce. Millions follow me on social media for my pottery. I have a private studio and have been running a couple classes myself the last few years, but I will be opening up new nights here soon.
My pottery studio is the most loaded state-of-the-art pottery studio you've ever walked into. More than 500 different commercial glazes, thousands of tools, and is just... epic. If you love pottery, having access to the studio is reason enough to take the job.
When I can procure a new building I have hundreds of people on my waiting list to join classes. For now, we'll keep it quaint.
What I need from you:
- I need you to be very good on the pottery wheel (with various forms and speed), able to throw up to 5-6 lbs at least with ease. Your quality must be superb as I sell premium ceramic art and it needs to match me in skill.
- I need you to be proficient in certain major ceramics skills including: wheel throwing, slab rolling, slump/hump molds, glazing, etc.
- I need you to be an awesome personality.
- I need you to be reliable.
- I need you to be able to work a dedicated number of hours each week. You'll be able to set your hours for the most part, but I need at least 20 per week and I need them to be consistent.
- I need you to be honest.
- I need you to have a deep love for pottery and ceramics.
- I need you to enjoy and thrive in a laid back environment. This isn't your grandma's pottery studio; there aren't a lot of language filters, etc.
- I need you to be okay with less glamorous work, too. This includes cleaning my wheel, mopping, cleaning slop buckets, helping with grunge work, etc....All the things that have to be done to keep a studio awesome.
I'm looking for three people who can start immediately.
THE BIG TEST:
If you're interested... Submit an application and a note telling me about you and your experience with pottery. If I think you'll be a good fit, we'll have a FaceTime interview. If you still seem like a good fit, I'll need you to come in and show me that you can throw a few different forms (this may take place with other candidates).
SHORT-TERM OR LONG-TERM:
I need three people for a couple of months, and I'll be keeping one employee on after that. I prefer to keep my employees as long as possible. My hope is that if you're the one who stays, this job will last years. If you know you are in it for the short-term, please let me know. We need that right now, too.
PERKS:
As my employee, you will have access to the studio for your own personal projects when you are off the clock.
BONUSES & RAISES:
Sometimes pottery sales are really good. I give bonuses to my employees whenever the universe is good to me.
I do up pay constantly for my employees the longer they work for me.
